When I first saw this, I immediately loved the warm pastel colors in the piece. The oranges and yellows give off an impression of a sunset or maybe a nearby fire, and the shading with a little bit of purple and cooler tones complements the lighting very well.

I also think you did a wonderful job with the anatomy and her overall pose. The foreshortened arm is very convincing, and her face and expression are very emotive. The wrinkles in her dress, especially around her knees, also look great; they definitely convey a sense of texture and form.

The subtle cursive writing in the background adds to the longing, romantic atmosphere. I like that it's not too bold, which would probably take away from the composition, but just dark enough to add a little more to the piece.

The area that looks like it could use the most improvement is with the line work--It looks very jagged and pixelated, a harsh contrast against the softer colors of the image.

I've only used GIMP a few times, but I think there's an option to use a "paintbrush" rather than "pen(cil)" that will give a softer look to the lines. Using a lower-opacity could help, as could using a color just a little lighter, like a deep purple. You have great definition in the actual colors--You might even be able to do away with the linework all together.

Overall, a very pretty piece! You have a great eye for color, and a knack for creating a very emotional atmosphere. Keep up the good work! <img src="…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/>

I really like the concept for the piece, and I think the man's pose and expression do convey a sense of cockiness, like he's really convinced he can fly. The position and angle of the dragon also had to his character, as if he's saying "Nope, not gonna do it" and walking off. The anatomy also looks pretty solid, especially on the boy.

I think the coloring makes the piece a little flat, though, as there's not a lot of shading or variation in color. There's a little in the boy's shirt and the dragon to kind of give a scaly look, but it's not quite bold enough to really stand out. Emphasizing a contrast between light and dark, and playing with more than one color to paint (especially in the skintone--Try using all shades of browns, pinks, oranges, even some blues and purples) will really help to make the characters pop out.

Wow, what a wonderful painting. And a great capture of it, too--Normally cell phone cameras completely destroy any merit of the original painting, but there are no signs of that here.

I love the textures and movement created by the paint strokes, especially in the water. The colors work wonderfully together--The warm oranges and yellows in the sky and reflection of the water perfectly complement the deep blues in the ocean. The contrast between the light clouds in the sky and depths of the sea also add to the composition, and I love the boat as a focal point is just slightly off center.

I'm torn as to whether or not the piece needs perhaps a little more refinement in the boat and pier--A part of me thinks that it does, but at the same time, the objects are still well-defined and I fear that may take away some of the Impressionist influences here.

Great work! A real treat to observe and consider--Thanks for sharing it with us.

It's under Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen. :) There are a few other varieties, too, but that usually works well.
