Another confirmation of the fact that India is the home of some of the most amazing sights in the world... :)
I happened to come across this Pandit on the streets.

Thank you for the time and support.

Love this portrait, the stark contrast looks very good for this portrait.

I've just been through your gallery and I really like this one a lot. if you dont mind me asking, how do you produce such a glow? besides the charm of the man himself, of course :D
and can you tell me what the sign on his forehead mean?
Ashesh's avatar
Thank you. To produce this glow, you need to do something that'll make the person being photographed a little awkward - you need a flashlight. ;P
I used the flashlight to brighten up only a circle while shooting, and then enhanced the contrast using PS.

wow, so you used a flashlight???
cool. yes, I noticed your photos are all incredibly high-contrasted.
Btw, what does the sign on his forehead mean?

Hmmm... well the aryan symbol denotes peace, calm, spirituality, knowledge... it denotes all of these in one go. This symbol is worn by the ';pandits' these days. The pandits usually live in temples, and spend most of their lives in prayer.

i really enjoy Hinduism. i like their beliefs about animals being on the same level as humans.

Which is true, otherwise we wouldn't have ended up screwing the entire ecosystem and risking our own future.

the philosophy of hinduism and buddhism both help the environment, which is awesome. being vegan makes me feel like i am helping the environment.

I've turned into a vegan too. Its nice, you know. This is our home, and it's sad to see that not many of us care about it.

yeah, people need to realize that everything they do effects the earth they live in. eating meat causes Global Warming, and nobody even knows that. they think changing their light bulbs will help, but they need to do more.
