Things should be getting clearer now... Even clearer in the next couple of pages...

Jareth and Sarah belong to Henson, Lucas, Bowie and Connelly.
Swan Lake belongs to Tchaikovsky.

I see no clarity - just feels for the un-sailing of my ship.

The Swan lake! Now it at least makes a little sense.

I'm going to say Trousers of Time just before I start reading on. Y'know, 'cos.

You and the rest of the buildingverse are pushing me to try drawing comic strips. I can't see them turning out as well as yours, though.

Love your work.

I'm understanding a little more now

Oh jeez have you been watching Black Swan? I get the same vibes from this page as I did from the movie. 0_0

I. . . have to admit, while this is awesome I can't help but find the whole 'Swan Lake' theme terribly amusing. Mostly because the way I found the Roommates 'Verse was through a crossover fanfic someone wrote with Princess Tutu. . . now I need to hunt that fic down again and see if they wrote it before or after you wrote this arc. . .

There is a lot of "tragic endings" of this ballet, but I guess the better one is when Odette and her prince (Siegfred, isn't it? Can't remember) die and are seen flying to Heaven together... It is tragic, but also somewhat "happy".
Renee-Niels's avatar
Eh, me? I prefer the unambiguously happy ending. There are already a buttload of ballets where the guy is unfaithful (though Siegfried's was accidental) and the girl dies because of it (Giselle, La Sylphide, Ondine, etc.) ... seriously ohmygosh why is the girl always punished for the guy being a cheating jerk in ballet |D

There is also a perfectly happy one where the prince defeats the evil sorcerer and lives happily ever after with Odette... currently (or as far as I know) we think that this was meant to be the original, but such stories just didn't go well with the ideals of romanticism so it was changed and the Darker And Edgier version stuck.
Ana-Shadow-Wolf's avatar
Well, I know this ending, but I mean that out of all the tragic endings (The prince stays with Odile or he follows Odette and sees her dying) the "better" one is the one where they both die and go to heaven together... It is somewhat happy, in a Romeo and Juliet ending kind of way
Mali-chan's avatar
You're right. Except for the comparison.

(For me the ending of Romeo and Juliet didn't even reach bittersweet, it was a downer... two deaths through sheer stupidity. Maybe I'm just not romantic enough to appreciate. My favorite version (the movie "Romeo + Juliet", it's so Bad it's Good) at least had enough self-aware irony to make it bearable.)
Ana-Shadow-Wolf's avatar
Although I do consider a "happy" (better than having them living apart, since they loved each other so much and it served as a punisment for those moronic excuses of families they had) this doesn't stop me from crying (is like the The Little Prince. You're happy he's back to his planet and his rose, yeah, but I still cry like a baby).
Haven't watched this version, I'll try finding it to watch (got curious, I love irony)
Mali-chan's avatar
I felt their ending is "Love Makes You Dumb" and "Poor Communication Kills". Living apart has the option of meeting again (maybe even to get a bit of distance to see things clearer, because their love for me never seemed too healthy), dying together pretty much removes any chance of living together.

That movie is a polarizing one so a love it or hate it thing. ^^; I loved it, but I had the misfortune to watch the 1968, Franco Zeffirelli version before it and that took itself way too seriously for my taste. I ended up alternating between  and :XD: at the "Oh-So-Dramatic-And-Tragic" death scene... Romeo + Juliet with all it's over-the-top imagery managed to be a lot more touching.

Is that thing, bad news always travel faster. Since I believe in life after death, their ending is not THAT bad. Sure, is sad and all, but not that bad. Actually, my favorite works of Shakespeare are Otelo and The Winter's Tale.

I remember I watched one movie when I was younger but damn if I can remember which version was.

I'm agnostic about life after death. I'm not even perfectly sure about life before death, but still... trowing away the only life we can be reasonably sure to exist looks just foolish to me. If we don't go meta that is. If life is fictional death doesn't matter just how memorable the story was. But in this case ONLY the story matters and not the lives of the people in it, which in itself is a tragedy (Roommates deals with this at times).

I'm just skipping back through the arch, and now I recognize the crystal in the last pannel! ha! I never would have caught that if I didn't go back! I absolutely LOVE this!

It's comign together and I think I am going to love it. I'll reread when it's over to get the whole idea. But this is becoming a small comicbook masterpiece.

Hehe. Maybe I'm just slow but... nope. Not getting clear for me.

I do like the childish Jareth panels though.

The way all tales end always depend on who is telling them...

am I the only one who sees the couple in the crystal at the last panel? o.0
Mali-chan's avatar
No. You're not. The panels before that are close-ups of the crystal so it's pretty logical too.
Adne's avatar
oh yes! your right! didn't even see that, thank you for pointing that out to me! :3
