Roommates 129 - Mashup

Javert's mother is specifically the often forgotten "healer" and generally magical incarnation of the character who hasn't had much presence in the mainstream. She's from the really, really old stories, back when the Welsh and French were in charge of the mythos. She's all the same person NOW because her primary characterization combines different people into one role (Madame Giry and the Daroga, anyone?), which Javert here gripes. The multiple and conflicting characterizations between sources being why she's so... extreme... and why there's no credit for her.

Incidentally, James is apologizing because although a lot of the more famous material is actually French, Arthurian legend is generally considered to be English, and many of the later English versions continue to support the "evil Morgan" characterization.

Keep this in mind. Characterization may come back to haunt them later...

Yes, Erik's little mental thought process is 1+1=Fish.

Erik belongs to Leroux and Webber.
Jareth belongs to Henson, Lucas, and Bowie.
Norrington belongs to Disney, Bruckheimer, and Davenport.
Javert belongs to Hugo, Boublil, Schonberg, and Kretzmer.

Javert and Jareth are cousins, and the math equals fish. I love it.

One plus one equal fish........seems legit

So let me see if I go this right, Jareth's father is dating James mother, thus making them potential step-brothers. And Javert's mother is Jareth's aunt, so they are cousins?...and I assume Morrigan is Jareth's aunt trough his father so Javert and James are... potential step-cousins? And Erik is the only one not ''related'' to his roommates?

The J-Club is complicated.

...Have Jamie and Javert realised that they are kinda-not-quite-related-by-marriage to each other through Jareth? I think that would maybe short-circuit their brains a little... and that would be hilarious to watch

They briefly thought about it once, then resolved not to think about it further.

Question: Is this your own explanation, or one that you discovered/found? If the former, may I have your permission to use it for one of my novels, and if the latter, may I ask where you found it?

I'm... fairly certain, by this point, that this was the result of sitting around with my friends at a convenience store at 11, eating terrible food and letting the radio play entirely too appropriate songs at random. If it's not, I don't remember where it came from. It may have been some weird combination of various stories where mythological characters are doing things in a modern setting, but I read a bunch of them and couldn't say where exactly the idea originates.

Nonsense. 1+1 does not equal fish...
That's 2+2.

;P  Don't forget the even older source material in the Mabinogien..that's welsh

I wonder when everyone else is gonna catch up to Erik?

Also wasn't Javert's mother a whore?
That fish is just about the best thing I've read in in a long, long while!

"We don't talk about the whole prison incident. She gets very upset"

I could not stop laughing, in part because just before I read that I was like,
"Wait, but doesn't he devote a whole verse in the Confrontation song to being born in a jail??"

Excellent job as always~

And as for the mythos getting boiled down like that . . I feel sorry for his mum.

I do enjoy this very, very much. You've got a deft hand with the feel of classic Fae tales.

Oh cool, you know the difference between Morgan le Fay and Morgause!

Yey! I always get pissed off at authors who make them out to be the same character, and I'm all like "Nononononononononono that's not how it works. That's like saying that Merlin and Nimue are the same."
