Yangtze Lung

A twenty foot long denizen of the yangtze river system, the Yangtze Lung is a powerful aquatic predator that preys on river dolphins, fish, deer, oxen, and anything it can drag into the water. Like a seal, it will bask on riverbanks. It breeds in the isolated headwaters of the Yangtze and is widely distributed, though individual creatures are uncommon.
The Yangtze Lung is solitary, though individuals will occasionally gather to feed on fish shoals in a manner similar to crocodiles. During the mating season the males become violant and attack anything in the water, including each other. Many Lung's bear the scars from attacks. Eggs are laid on land, and females will coil around them to protect them.
The Lung avoids well populated stretches of river, as it is shy around humans and generally sensitive to the pollution they create. A few rogue specimans have been seen in close proximity to villages, where constant peace offerings from the villagers kept them sated. Like their cousins, the Yangtze Lung is seen as devine by the chinese people, and they seldom permit them to be killed.
