I read banned books
Books that stir up trouble and thoughts
Books that force people to look at what they don't want to see
I read banned books
Books which cause parents to shut their hands over the eyes of their children
Books which the government don't want the masses to read
I read banned books
I read Rowling, Lee, Hurston, Morrison, Frank, and Myers
I read Steinbeck, Huxley, Paterson, Chaucer, and Orwell
I read Hinton, Fitzgerald, Bradbury, Conrad, and Carroll
I read banned books and hunger for more

The Last Book
The last book you read
I imagine a little like your last breath
when you don't know that you're dying
just yet - maybe the last book you'll read
will be one you know well, and read a good many times,
breathing life into words by reading them,
making letters, names, stories come alive -
or maybe, the last book that you will read
will be one you have not had the time to learn
how to love; maybe it is difficult to love,
with winding, confusing phrases and a tendency
for the overly mysterious, or dramatic,
and maybe it made you cry -the last book you read,
will it be a special one? maybe
a beloved's diary, or your own diary entries
about that ...

Top 20 Favorite Books
Top 20 Favorite Books I know, often nowadays it's hard to find people who actually read books with just text. Mostly everything's online now. But call me crazy--sometimes there just is nothing like curling up with a good book. Of course, I have my favorites. I'm not going to do a 'hated' list this time--because no matter how much I can't get into a book, I find it difficult to HATE even one. Mainly it's because I read. A lot. Even now that I'm 18. But enough about that--I had to extend this list to my first top 20 in order to make it all fit, and to be honest, I'm still not sure I'm going to be able to find them all room on this l...

We'll always have Steinbeck
Iron my fingertips
against the crease of the seam,
and scrawl on the envelope
an ambiguous address. When the last multi-hued
string of our friendship bracelet
frayed- peeled apart like uncoiled
copper wires-
Could have sworn I felt the wear
with every fruitless search;
you refuse to stay in one place. They tell me you dream of Hawaii.
And a quick handed 200 dollars
Makes for easy deliberation.
I hope you’ll drop me a line
Before you take off for paradise.Remember when we sat on the hills
and saw small brown children
throwing and catching,
And you said nothing was ever as beautiful
As the way the ball bounced. You might have been high
But I th...

Another piece inspired by a book. Though not the writing style, just the subject matter.
I have Fahrenheit 451 sitting in my car's cassette player yes, cassette player, my car's old...
So I'm listening to this audio book when I realized two things:
1) This is talking about a world that we in America are heading towards pretty shortly...
2) This book is about book burning and books being banned
This lead to another thought: I, throughout much of my schooling and pure curiosity, have read many books that have been banned at one point or another. And so I looked up a list of the books that have been banned and found that the books I have fallen in love with the most have all been banned.
So I wrote this up as an ode to the books that make people think.
Can anyone guess which books I hinted too with the list of authors?
