I read banned books
Books that stir up trouble and thoughts
Books that force people to look at what they don't want to see
I read banned books
Books which cause parents to shut their hands over the eyes of their children
Books which the government don't want the masses to read
I read banned books
I read Rowling, Lee, Hurston, Morrison, Frank, and Myers
I read Steinbeck, Huxley, Paterson, Chaucer, and Orwell
I read Hinton, Fitzgerald, Bradbury, Conrad, and Carroll

Before I Can Become a Writer
Develop insomnia. Develop
problems with substance abuse,
nothing serious, but enough
that I can say “write drunk,
edit sober” and mean it.
Drink tea. Write about drinking
tea. Take up smoking, ignore
the thoughts about it being
a slower suicide. Write about
suicide. Don’t mean it.
Write about sunsets and
ink veins. Mean it.Fall in love with someone
who will never love me back.
Lament. Write a million
crappy poems and two good
ones. Never show him.
Move on. Write a few more
bad poems. Fall in love with
someone perfect. Screw it up.
Fall in love with someone awful.
Call him perfect. Screw it up.Cry. Cry for the inevitable,
the way my family ...

Let the Music Play
Whenever things go wrong,
We find our solace in song
When things are such a mess,
Music puts it all to rest
When things are going right,
Music adds to the delightWhen everything is strange...!
Music helps us turn the page...!
Helps us look into the distance once more,
Reminds us what we are living for!Just let the music play...!
Let it wash away the pain...!
Lift your voice, sing the refrain...!
When it's over, do it again...!
Go outside and twirl in the rain,
Come on everybody, let's go insane!
Let the music play...!
Just let the music play...When a heart, love breaks,
Music never forsakes
No matter how much it hurts,
We find healing in t...

What Becomes of the Introvert?
What becomes of the renegades
and their late-night ways? What has solitude earned them
that others might envy?A friendship with the stars?
A kinship with the moon?Who are those aloof few
who discern the abstract? They are the introverts.
The thinkers. They tinker and toy as they toil,
burning their midnight oil for an idea. They are the shy minority,
the mysterious, lost in solemn thought, solving all the world's problems
as if it were no trouble at all.How do they survive?
How do they endurein an extroverted world,
which cares more for the unreserved? They feed on knowledge
and thrive on philosophy,perspicuity,
pertinacity.They need no approval...

Another piece inspired by a book. Though not the writing style, just the subject matter.
I have Fahrenheit 451 sitting in my car's cassette player yes, cassette player, my car's old...
So I'm listening to this audio book when I realized two things:
1) This is talking about a world that we in America are heading towards pretty shortly...
2) This book is about book burning and books being banned
This lead to another thought: I, throughout much of my schooling and pure curiosity, have read many books that have been banned at one point or another. And so I looked up a list of the books that have been banned and found that the books I have fallen in love with the most have all been banned.
So I wrote this up as an ode to the books that make people think.
Can anyone guess which books I hinted too with the list of authors?
