I feel like submitting this shot even though it's completely not what I intended. I'm still having trouble getting my local photo place to process Fuji Neopan 100 ACROS correctly (can you tell?). Today I managed to convince them that they were sometimes processing it as Neopan 400 (which was proved true when the owner asked one of the staff 'how would you process this film?' in front of me and they gave the settings used for Neopan 400). So having worked that out, this film was theoretically processed as normal 100 ASA film (unless they processed it as 400 again by sheer oversight). It turns out they basically have one setting which they use for all 100 films. And if that's really what they used here then it doesn't seem too appropriate for ACROS... nice effect, but I'd prefer to have planned it :) (Smile)

Cactus, Kew Gardens, London, February 2003

This looks like a photo from Mars to me.
I mean, looks like some scary plant or bug.

By the way, labs always unable to process the B/W film as I expected. Always disappointed. :( (Sad)

Stunning? Such a small word for such a great photo. I've fallen in love with the cropping, which makes this what it really is. Local photo place hassling? Hmm, I'm sure the Taliban has to be good for something. ;) (Wink)

dorkwad humor at 3 am is good for..well, me.

wonderful. despite the "lucky accident" (or incompetence on the part of the photo place ?), it's a great shot full of amazing detail and movement. a tad on the blurry side at the bottom, perhaps, but hey...i'd love to have this as a full-sized print on one of my walls. definitely stunning. +fav

It is indeed a great view of a cactus, it almost looks like a troop of spikey slugs hoarding towards a pond or something... :) (Smile)

the darkroom is a scary place....
but if your serious about b&w it's the only way.....
just to get the neagtives done, then the rest in photoshop...
You can limit contrast by giving more time....

why dont you just ask to use someone's black room and devlop things there, you can get a little more control over things. i like this. the patterns and the contrast

Aww, sorry about the problems with the lab. That's got to be annoying. Ended up with cool photo though, which is good. The contrast does work nicely with lines and texture here. It's also kinda cool that if make my eyes go just slightly off focus I start seeing swirly patterns made up of the thorns. Fun. :) (Smile)

Its always more comfortable to plan, or plan to plan, or plan out your planning to plan for planned planning. I had to give up on this completely in art, I'm just not good enough to plan my artwork. Photography is different, though... you are a master at it, and you could have fooled me about this photo. Everything you submit seems to be very deliberate and wonderful! I like this shot, I feel like the thorns are going to stick me in the eye;) (Wink)
