This looks great. I agree about the angles leading the eye around the whole picture. The "empty" space to the right of the statue is important for this, I think, since it makes me re-examine the far left side searching for symetry.

Although not abstract or illusionary, there is an Escher quality about it with about 50% of the shot being close to white. It would probably look interesting as a mirrored tile.

Haha it's funny you mentioned the flow of the eye, I thought the exact same thing.

The contrast, hmmm, ya maybe, but I purposefully made these scans as direct as possible (auto levels only with 0% clipping) in order to reflect the original exposure decisions as accurately as possible. Not because I'm a luddite (ok that too) but because the exposure decisions were central to what I was trying to do (shoot silhouettes).

So I guess in that sense I could reinterpret your comment as saying I should have upped the exposure a bit (to get the sky completely saturated). In truth I was actually aiming to get more detail in the sky, but my exposures with 1600 aren't very accurate yet because I haven't shot a test roll and hence don't know how to rate the film. Currently I'm downrating it 2/3 of a stop (to 1000) by analogy with Neopan 400, which seems to need to be rated 250 on my camera to give accurate exposures on my meter. But that could well be wrong.

Superb shot. *redux said it all really. I too love the contrast and also the way the statue appears to be defendig itself from the buildings :-) (Smile)

love the simple geometry of the composition, which nicely guides the eye from top left, down to the base of the statue...and then all the way back up along. again, you own me with your high contrast and sharp detail. i would have upped the contrast even a bit more, to get complete white on the sky, but hey...i'm just a fanatic. also, i would have maybe cropped about 1/5th off the right-hand side as well...
nevertheless...i'm your bitch and you get a +fav :D (Big Grin)
