and another nice one frome you =) (Smile)
i like it very much how you've got repeating patterns - horizontally the sailors (very nice they are!) and vertically the structure of the building; broken up with the palm and the water and mated with the high pass filter ... a great picture came out.

(and sometimes i think you're still improving, though your pictures've reached a high level already ;-) (Wink) )

Sailor picturs Ash? Thanks :-) (Smile) It really works well with the water there.

I used a high pass filter or about 8 and an opacity of 50% on the filtered layer. I agree there's too much contrast, it's actually pretty much like that in the original print although I also did a levels in ps which has darkened the blacks and brightened the whites, increasing the contrast more. I often seem to get high contrast prints from the combination of neopan film and snappy snaps d&p (uk high street photo stores), particularly in contrasty lighting conditions such as this. those uniforms are pretty damned white, and for some reason the background building is dark; perhaps it was in shadow.

Great shot - I like the composition quite a lot - the water adds to this nicely. Ash, I think there might be a bit too much contrast in this for my liking but this doesn't mean this isn't still a great shot! Good work - send more, send more,

Oh my gosh! would ya look at that... wheres the signature purple? I can certainly see some of the highPass halo-artifacting going on. I like it. Wonder if you do? What strength did you use? Try some different settings. Low settings are good for general sharpening, and higher settings are nice for introducing elements of drama. Sometimes its good to adjust the opacity of the high pass layer a bit as well. If ever you have a pic thats got really low contrast values, try the high pass but set it to overlay instead of soft light. Works beautifully with color images as well...
This image looks pretty good, but those highlights and shadows might be just a bit much IMHO. Just my opinion tho... Cant wait to see more!

oooh yea, i got a slide scanner for the weekend. Lucky me i get to scan most of my slides from the last 18 months or so. Dont ask how many... :( (Sad)

Nice contrasts and composition in this. I like the sailors, is this on a base? Great lines and flow, good work. Nod

Though I know in real life there must have been plenty of noise, this photo gives of a strong sense of quiet and peace. Lovely work.
