Sleepy Crate Potato by Ascynd Sleepy Crate Potato by Ascynd
Before I learned that sprouts don't have spots I thought that Tori looked like a spotted potato, so that inspired this. I also wanted to show bagbeans' inner eyelids since I hardly see them drawn... I figure it's sort of like with cats, where you probably only see them if their eyes are partway open when they're sleepy.

As a sprout, Sartorius had 'caretakers' that weren't much interested in caretaking. They weren't the traditional type that were gifted a lovebean, so much as decided to take in a lost sprout for their own motives. He got what he needed to survive but not to thrive, and pretty much had to raise himself and provide for his own needs beyond scraps of food and a roof over his head.

At this stage he has the stars in his eyes, but the constellation marks on his body don't start to appear until later.

You usually only see them when animals are really relaxed and have their eyes partially closed, but also when certain animals are diving underwater to see, going through windy sanded areas to protect their eyes from sand, or while hunting/digging to protect their eyes from damage or flying dirt/debris

Yes that's what I was thinking. Almost all animals with eyelids have them (we don't but we have vestigial remnants heh). I figure bagbeans do because they are relatively short and so more likely to encounter debris from the ground, also many do like to farm and work in the dirt. Furthermore, they're covered in fuzz that could come loose and get into the eyes. XD

I really want to just scoop him up and show him so much love. Tugging at the heart strings with that face ;w;

; ----; tori babyyyy hhhhh he's so cute and sweet and HNGH that backstory so sad...

also i always forget bagbeans have nictitating membranes!!! very cool!!!

I figure the membranes are rarely seen, like cats', but I anchored them more like a bird's (and they appear to be very transparent more like a bird's... cats' haws are opaque). =)

I have a whole backstory for Tori in my head actually that hopefully does a lot to explain what kind of character he is. I'd love to illustrate it all out in a comic sometime if I can figure how to lay it out.
