Paw Print .v4 - Light Green - F2U! This is an open species! Feel free to make your own! Paw Print .v4 - Light Green - F2U!

At last.
At long last.
It's here. It's real.
I've been working on this for SO long, you guys have no idea.

Ever since I posted my first Azara species sheet (rest in pieces), I've been dying to make one for my Azaroth, my other made-up creatures.
Time and time again I posted artwork of this species, giving you guys little to no context as to what animals they were.
Sure, you may have heard of them by reading my Azarian Stories, but I felt that both Azaras and Azaroth were sort of bland in terms of lore and species descriptions.

Well, lo and behold, one of them got their dinner served.
It took me over a year of research to make these animals as biologically accurate as possible, and then three more months to draw all the artwork you see and assemble it into a single image. It was worth it, and I hope you guys like it.

This is as descriptive as a species sheet can be, and I actually attempted to make Azaroth feel like an actual, real existing animal, by giving it a taxon and relating it to a bunch of other species.
There is so much more that I wish I could include in this sheet, but the image was already ridiculously big as is. I actually tried uploading this as a .png, but DeviantART literally wouldn't take files bigger than 80MB, and mine was 95 ^^; I don't think I've ever created an image file so big, lol. So here, we're left with the old jpeg version. Just pretend those bits of ripped parchment were transparent, ok?
Since I'm not quite done showing absolutely everything about this species, I may actually post a follow-up going in depth into their genetics, especially their colors and patterns*, and I will most likely be posting some of the individual images that you see in this sheet, so that you can see them better.

**Just so you can get a taste, here is but a fraction of all the possible color combinations. Don't worry my sanity is still intact.

In the meantime, enjoy this species sheet!
If you have any questions about this species, feel free to ask me! I'm always eager to discuss about them!
And remember that this is an open species! You are more than welcome to create your own Azaroth, and I'd love to see what you come up with :)
Just make sure to mention my name in the description as the species owner :D
I may also make some adoptables along the way, but this will be it for now.

There are a few words in bold in the sheet, for which I'll provide links here, for further reading if you are interested!

This is such a cool species!!! I'm defiantly making one ^^
Also, how do you even get started on making your own species?
I'm in the process of making my own :3

Ahh thanks, have fun with it! :)
It definitely took a lot of research for this one, I'd say start off by learning about real animals: how and where they live, how they find food and defend themselves, how they reproduce, etc.
Very often, the animal's behavior and lifestyle depends a lot on the environment it lives in.

I'm very curious about Neonimravus and Cynailurus ingens, what are they? Aside from Azara and Azaroth these two are the only made-up ones in your phylogeny tree

Well spotted! ;)
Neonimravus was an ancestor of Azaras and Azaroth, before these two species split apart.
It was closer in look to Azaroth as it was quadrupedal, but it also retained more key characteristics of classic Nimravidae, such as five toes on its rear feet, saber-teeth and a plantigrade gait.
Cynailurus ingens is more closely related to Azaras than it is to Azaroth, but it still represent a transition between the two, as it also still has five toes on its rear feet, but a more upright stance, like Azaras. Moreover, as the name suggests, it was much larger in size than modern Azaras :)

Yes, finally! This is so freakin' amazing, Arven! :la: The amount of details you put into this ref sheet, and all that research and, most importantly, love is mind-blowing. I love how you thought out the evolution of Azaroths and their relation to other animal species, as well as all that genetic research. It's amusing that the species high level of adaptability allowed them and Azaras practically to take the niche that humans occupy today. ;)

It's interesting that you devided wild and dweller Azaroth into different class, though indeed the differences in their behavior and lifestyle are quite significant. I find it interesting that dweller Azaroths would typically look for wild mates and vice versa - I guess it's some kind of instinct that prevents inbreeding and ultimately ensures that the pups get more varied genetic material? :plotting:

Oh, and that warrior class female looks awesome! It's great to see one of these fellows, as I wondered what their tack would look like. How do you imagine an Azara rider would be positioned? Since Azaroth anatomy is far from that of a horse, I imagine that the rider's point of rest would be on Azaroth's shoulders and Azara would have to lean forward quite a bit - and those spiky things on the saddle's sides would probably be used as sort of stirrups, to support the rider's legs? :plotting:

I really love such detailed species sheets! The way you wrote it and used the pictures, really gives the feeling as if this could be a real species. You really did an excellent job with this. I like how you made connections to real world with using taxons and such.
And you have to be somewhat crazy to do so many colour refs additional to that sheet :D - but I find it really interesting to have so many informations.
I may try and make one of my own, altough I'm bad at designing^^.

This is enjoyable to read and look at the images. It gives me a wikipedia-feeling, but it's much prettier.
So, given the descriptions, my guess is that the black Azaroth villain (forgot her name:/) is a wild/Garoth, Zercutath subspecies, since she's so...savage. Is this correct? :)

I'll make about 30 of these babs
No, but all seriousness, this freaking blew me away when I first saw it. The amount of detail and dedication that went into making these animals is phenomenal. I honestly agree with half these comments - it feels like these are actual living animals that we could see in our world today, it's so detailed. I would willingly study these animals bit by bit
Will there be some type of Azara Species Sheet, or no? Going back to what happened before, I wouldn't blame you for being hesitant with making it.

Also is it Zercutath or Zecutath? Not sure which is the mistake because they both appear equally often XP

Auggggh darn typos! I double triple quadruple checked and they still pop up, arrrgh! XD
The correct word is Zercutath, with the "r" :)

Wow, you are crazy! The positive kind of crazy, that is. :D

You put so much effort in this, it must have taken not only hours, but days and weeks to complete this!

And I learned about a new (real) species, the African palm civet. I didn't know about it neither by its English nor by its German name. (It's called "Pardelroller" in German, but I neither know what a Pardel is nor how these animals are supposed to roll them.) ;) I even had to look it up to be sure it's a real species, not one you invented for your world. :D

And I absolutely adore the genetics part! You must have spent the same amount for research about this as for the original artwork. Now I feel lazy as I did some research in fur color genetics especially for dogs for use in fictional species, but found it much too complicated. But now I might have to go and make up Lycorian fur genetics, even if i doubt that it could even nearly as sophisticated than yours.

Are there any albinos or otherwise white Azaroths? The lightest possible color seems to be fawn sepia?

PS: It's hard to criticize something so elaborate, but the header of the tables in Azaroth color dummy all spots might be wrong, as it says "Tabby locus: Varies (shown below)", but the table only seems to describe alleles for the spots locus. I guess it should read "Dominant (Ta)" or something like that? (Probably I'm wrong, so sorry about this.)
