New Africa page!

Faida is not so crazy after all.

Just what DID Chui do already?
I loved drawing all the little background interactions in this page, from Safari meeting his "niece" to them bickering when Sabra returns.

paneling is clean and organized. it has a good flow. i love seeing the character interractions in the background- it's like two birds with one stone for storytelling! i noticed there were no stars in the sky for the first 2 panels. it's not that big of a deal, just a very minor consistency nitpick. also, i'm not sure if this is a stylistic choice or not, but Safari's paws seem quite large for a cheetah's. they look bulky and more like Africa's paws. maybe it looks this way to me because Safari's ankles are a bit wide, making the paws appear bulky, OR it's just the angle he is crouching in. in the following panel, the paw looks more like a cheetah paw because you gave it more of an "ankle" (for lack of better words). Faida's expression in panel 3 is a little ambiguous and i think heavier shading in her furrowed eyebrows would help bring out the "intensity" of her emotion.

but really, all of this is just minor stuff, and i quite love this page <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

Wow! This page looks amazing!! I love the way the serval is running over there and Safari is hissing at her in panel 2. This page looks extremely good, but I do have a bit to critique.

Almost everything looks good, but in panel 3 it's a bit hard to tell Faida is actually angry. I suggest making a few scrunched up parts (i have no idea what to call these) under her eyes?? It makes her look a bit more angry <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a…" width="19" height="19" alt="^^;" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="417" title="Sweating a little..."/>

other than that it looks amazing!! Great job, keep up the good work! Can't wait to see the next one!

I appreciate the small, accurate details of your animal characters, like Safari's nonretractable claws!

I have a feeling the if Chui is the reason why it's the end of the world, I think it's because of his collar because I think the end of the world would be the humans. Just guessing.

Aww, Safari meeting Binti is the cutest thing ever! :aww: Now, Africa is simply obligated to adopt him as a goofy old uncle. :D Lol, and Sabra, you should be more polite, it's not your meat to begin with.

Hmm, I now wonder if Faida blaming Chui for the 'end of the world' is just her being a crazy survivalist or is there a solid ground for these accusations... My guess that it has to do with his collar and humans... :p

lol they're so adorable in the first panel XD
just what the fuck did that asshole Chui do?? Africa hates him. the lions hate him. the hyenas hate him. basically the entire continent hates him. well considering what we saw from him, it makes perfect sense he's being treated like satan but really, what the hell else did he do???
I believe it’s because of his collar, it brings the humans

lol and wherever they go, Chui takes the heat for it XD

Safari (in the 1st panel): Is this really a cheetah? It's coloring is a little off...
Safari (2nd panel): Now, I KNOW you're not a cheetah cub!!!

Why so ungrateful n salty, Africa?
Your hungry cubs were just fed.

I really don't get Africa-

"I'm stressed because I was kicked from my territory and have nowhere with food and water for me and my cubs to stay"

"there's a swamp with fresh water and food"

"Eh. I'll pass."
I'm wondering if her conflict is because Giza instilled into her from a young age that things have to always stay the same- ie leopards are solitary animals who don't co-exist with other animals, and so because of this she is struggling with the idea that maybe they could join up with the hyenas and other assorted animals in Faida's tribe? She would need to adopt new ideas, which is what the old gazelle (Paa's mum but can't remember her name) was trying to teach her to do, before Giza put a stop to it.

Looks like Mosi would be willing to join Faida though.
Kauluka's avatar
It probably is, but if Africa is going to potentially make her cubs starve and be thirsty just to not break tradition-

Bad mama.

I hope the cubs say they wanna stay and convince Africa

GAAAAASP! It's all Chui's fault? Who'd have guessed!

Love the interaction between the cubs and Safari.  :D

And also, awesome surprise that the next page will be posted on my birthday; that automatically means it'll be a great day! <3

I think Chui’s Collar might have something to do with the “end of the world” Faida speaks of. I am rewatching Feral pride when I stumbled upon the beginning of this episode.

Happy Mother's Day, Africa!

And great job, Arven. I have been keeping up with the comic for a while. Your comics and stories are my favorite pieces on the internet for a long time. They are just beeautiful.

I have to ask you a serious question, comic artist to comic artist. I don't know if you'll see this or get a chance to respond, but I will try.

First off, Chakra and Africa are WAAAYYY better than my own, and you've clearly put a lot of effort into studying animal anatomy. However, I have a question about your backgrounds. I'm not looking to copy them or anything! But I feel like I put too much effort into the backgrounds of my panels rather than trying to focus on the characters themselves. How do you do it? How do you make the backgrounds seem so simple yet also pop out to clearly define where the characters is/are? Do you have any recommendations for how to best approach a problem like that??
MistingWolf's avatar
Backgrounds are in general difficult, and I can't really offer any advice as to how to make it easier... but from what I've seen on your comic so far, you're doing a great job! I can tell that you put a lot of work into it, and that's something to appreciate.

The story and characters also seem really interesting, as well! Keep up the good work!

I do put plenty of time and effort in my comic. Just the backgrounds alone can be a challenge. I look at various pages and panels and use the angles to match the backgrounds to the best of my ability. It's sometimes a pain in the arse, but it can be worth it.
