A question: Does ArtRage 4 has something like stabilizer to make smooth lines? I have a problem it's very hard to get smooth lines in it and it's really time taking to just change the settings all the time.

The Ink Pen tool has a smoothing slider option in its setting window which can help smooth lines to varying degrees depending on its setting. Other than that, none of the other tools have such an option :(

I see. That's pity. :/ Maybe ArtRage could someday have an update to which would fix that thing or something...Pray
Thank you for telling anyway. :)

Hey, what happened to the monthly contest? Can't find the journals anywhere, at least. Are you going to continue them at some point?

And the actual reason I came here is that I noticed there are files named filename_GenA.ptgback, can I delete them or are they somehow important?

The file you referred to is a backup file. If the 'Store Backup Files' option is turned in your ArtRage settings/preferences, a backup file will be saved when you save your document again. When it saves, the previous save becomes the backup and a new save is created. If you have the number of back up set to a higher value than 1 it will save that many incremental back ups as you start to save the file more often. Hope that makes sense :)

:baffled: A quick question: Is it possible to achieve the blend mode Darken with the Sticker Spray tool playing with the Spray Variation settings like hue, luminosity, saturation or any other available within the tool?

I wanted to bring some of the Real Blending mode abilities to the Sticker Spray tool and, the Darken mode works quite well for most cases for blending the colors and, avoiding that gray when you’re trying to blend two opposite colors of the color wheel.

I was playing with the Spray Variation settings with not much success and, before I give up for good, I thought I would better ask the ‘source’. So, is it possible to achieve blending modes with the setting and, if yes, what would be the settings for the Darken mode or some of the most common blending modes like Multiply, Overlay etc. A tutorial with these settings would be much appreciated.

:netlove v.3 I’m enjoying using Artrage and, I believe the Real Blending mode is one of the strongest features of Artrage. I thank you in advance and, thank you the lovely program.

You may get a faster reply at the official forums or even by emailing them at support@artrage.com. I actually haven't used the blending layer modes yet otherwise I would totally chip in. Are you having trouble where you don't have something as dark as you'd like?

Da Vinci Fella (Artists) It’s unfortunate that Artrage’s Sticker Spray tool don’t support brush blending modes. The desktop Artrage’s Color Option Real Blending mode is one of its strongest features but, alas the Sticker Spray don’t support that feature. It’s when you’re trying to blend two colors opposite on the color wheel like yellow and, it’s opposite blue with the normal brush blending mode you’ll get something like a dirt gray or one color stronger than the other but, with the Darken mode you’ll get something much closer to the natural media blend results, a green. Some other blending modes produce also good results. It’s not only of just to make it darker.

I’m not sure if it is possible to simulate blending modes with the Sticker Spray Variation settings. The more I’m playing with the setting, the more doubtful I become. But, thank you for the helpful suggestions and, for noticing my question note.

EDIT 4: Just decided to scrap everything and make a clearer and shorter explanation. :)

So umm colour picker is working weird. Earlier I had problems with the "current layer only" setting but now that's working too.
The thing is, whether I have the "with lighting" setting on or off, the colour I get with the colour picker is lighter. You can see the difference way better with dark colours. My colouring might be slightly uneven, but I used the airbrush so there's no texture or anything and the difference shouldn't be that big. And on occasion it seems to be working normally even if I'm not doing anything differently. And now the "with lighting" thing isn't affecting everything. Whut. Okay. Well.

Okay, that's odd. Can you send us an email to support@artrage.com with your system details, and the version of ArtRage you're running? (The full version number from Help > About ArtRage).

If you can include an example PTG file that displays the problem, or a quick Script recording showing what happens, that would help a lot.

Ummm I'm always asking you stuff but you're so helpful. ^^;

So I'm colouring a line art, and when I coloured the skin it turned out real smooth, but when I coloured the sweater and skirt you can see more of a texture. (sta.sh/0vzo4ckmkfi and sta.sh/01bm11fm0qj)
The difference is quite small but it annoys me. x) Do you know why it could be? I'm not sure I have 100% same brush settings but they're quite the same and the airbrush doesn't change that much anyway. And it's not like I had problems achieving a smooth result before, either. Is it just because of the darker colours? (Then again I have quite a dark scarf and it's quite smooth too)

Well, that's my job! :salute:

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure, because it's hard to see (and I might need to play with the actual painting a bit). My guesses would be:

- Yes, the darker colours are just showing the texture more, because the lighting isn't standing out much on the lighter areas you've coloured.

This would probably be from the canvas itself. If you don't want any texture, set canvas opacity to 0% to see if that helps (if it does, you can play around and get the perfect canvas) or press F5 to turn off canvas lighting (this will affect the paint too). If you're after completely 'flat' paint, turning off the canvas lighting is probably what you want anyway. You can also add fill an area behind with paint to cover the canvas texture.

Or you could have some paint under it that's causing additional textures. If it WAS a build up of paint, you can change this by going to the layer menu, opening the menu for that layer and looking for 'Bump Blend Modes' (Bump = texture). Choose 'Replace' for that layer and it will override any paint texture under it.

- yeesss, but it's not the colour, it's because you need less paint to cover it because the background is dark/it's harder to cover evenly because you can't quite see, so the background is showing through and creating a texture effect. Try hiding the layer behind to see if that shows up any gaps or changes the appearance. You could add a layer behind to fill in the gaps.

- Or it could just be the way you've laid down the different shades. I think I can see a streaky sort of effect, but that would be caused by paint colour, rather than texture. You'd just have to keep painting in this case.

If you really, really can't figure it out, you can always send a sample painting to support@artrage.com and we'll have a poke around and tell you exactly what's happening.

Actually, try swirling the paint around quickly with the soft palette knife mode (the V shape one). That will tell you straight away whether it's paint or texture!

Hi!

I have a quick question considering the monthly challenges: can my entry to used for another contest as well? The piece I'm planning to draw would fit another contest that I'm planning on entering too.
