full title:
BOGOMIL'S CEREMONIAL STAGE: CASPAR AND HIS PROPS
acrylic on canvas, 14"x10", 1983

Note: I had submitted this work early this year, but replaced it with a better resolution picture. Also: I cleaned up the file for print submission (removed some blemished from the original file).
I had now also included it on my website (some interesting text added, including Arp's dada poem): www.artofthemystic.com/bogomil…

Hey, it's one of those crazy tests putting on a show for us, like they do.

I am eternally greatful for this wonderful poem by Arp! I didn't know it when I painted that (except that Kaspar is indeed a mythological figure in Germany, and also a early childhood copmpanion of mine) - I have to earmark this for future use! There are some subconscious references to Till Eulenspiegel beginning to surface as well.....
Cheers

He called that and the rest of it "der vogel selbdritt", a different and much expanded version was written as "kaspar ist tot" 33 years later in 1953. I can't find it right away on the internet, though there seem to be several versions: the one I'm thinking of goes on for 19 stanzas.
I'm looking forward to some merry pranks.
