graphite drawing on paper, 19" x 27", 1992

Fairy Tales gone berserk - was originally meant to be a poster for a musical comedy, comissioned and paid for, but not adopted. It was deemed too 'artistic' for the low-brow performance.

I've always liked this one a lot. Most of your art has to be taken in small doses. Not even one a day I'd say. The hunger must be present, but it may not be swallowed like fast food, but tasted in every detail, every nuance of spiciness and otherworldly herbs.

Completely wonderful, like an old engraving from Durer

Great imagery! This feels somewhere between children's book illustration and Renaissance engravings. I love the composition and deep shadows.

Actually, that's what it is. Some of the parts that strike you as renaissance engravings are taken from etchings by Albrecht Duerer.

very nice, quite the ornate illustration. About how many references do you think you packed in there?

Strange thing to be said when the need for art to be artistic is no less than it ever was. At least to me.

Simply amazing.

Thats a bad-ass drawing dude. You should consider it a win since you got paid and still got to have your artistic freedom. Their bad on not using such a quality work. It's absurd to say that something is too artistic, especially when coming from someone who's involved with the performing arts(or any type of art for that matter).

would have kept it anyway. They just paid for the copyright which they never exercised.
They were worried that their regular audience might think they've gone artsy: they were just doing folksy spoofs, nothing really artistic per se.
The other thing was that I made the poster before they even developed any of their story lines, so I kind of would have forced the development.
The company is pretty successful though: they are still going strong every summer.

Really amazing work. It looks like a drawing from the Middle Ages, but more bizarre. A bit of an atmosphere like the demon woodcuts though. Amazing details.

there is a bit of Albrecht Durer in the background.

Amazin, Love the details. How long did it take and how big is it ?

about 19x28 inches.
Charly Brown once said: good art takes at least 1/2 hour to do.
It took me more than 1/2 hour.
