A space pod for my Heart Of The Giant project. Transports crew members and VIP's to and from land based and orbital facilities on all the major colonized planets.

I only realized after I finished the painting that the front end was similar to Discovery One. If I do a more detailed painting in the future I may change the shape of the window, but for a rough painting, I'll just leave it as a tribute to one of the greatest scifi films of all time :)

Space ships of your design would be so easy to build, compared to other designs you could see on DArt: rectangle+box+sphere=ready!

Yup, I am a fan of simple overall shapes, the time consuming part is the greebly details :)

Cool design with a little bit of a retro feel to it with the 2001 space odyssey style spherical pod and that angular slab.

Thanks RealTimeBrush, I am highly inspired by 60-80s scifi, so my work will always have a touch of that with hopefully a slightly more modern spin :)

You escape a firm accusasion of ripping Discovery by not having the big hangar doors present. The visor-slit main viewport on an all-white vehicle is a staple of Cold War sci-fi design; everyone did that.
The contrast of the white spherical module to the blue vertical blade element (the propulsion module?) is what makes this design provocative.

Thanks Atomic Dog! And yes, the blue blade is the propulsion unit. Glad you like the combination.

Nothing wrong with looking like one of the finest fictional spacecraft ever devised – especially when it has good, accurate, scientific rationales for looking the way it did. I like off-kilter spacecraft with unusual orientations and that are clearly more engine that crew quarters, so this picture immediately makes me want to know more about your project :)

Thanks Kasterborous. The project is a narrative art book, the story is under wraps for now, and will likely have to wait till after my megastructures book is done, but starting to get together ideas for the ships and environment. Keep watching and I'll post more as the project develops, and thanks for watching!

I love spaceship designs that are basically just a few simple geometric shapes put together. Loving it!

Thanks! I like trying to make simple, easy to read silhouettes, and then add lots of greebly details :)

No need to thank me, thanks You for inspire me to try out new unique things.
Can I ask you something?
I will do it anyways hehe, how do you think of something like this?
Is it just something you think of while beginning to draw, or is it something you had in mind all the time?
It really is cathing my attention because I take all my inspiration from awesome artists like you!
Its like, I see things and I want to try to draw it, but I never have such good unique ideas myself.
Do you have any tips, on how to draw original concepts?
Thanks for you attention btw, never thought such a huge artist would reply to me lol

For the most part, I like big bold shapes, so I try to find uniqueness in mixing various shapes together. IMO, the best spaceships are the ones that can easily be described, like the tie fighter is a flying H, or the death star is a sphere with a giant crater.

I usually start with a function the ship needs to have, which suggests certain shapes. I then start playing around while sketching until some combination of those shapes looks interesting. Once I have that, I ask if a vehicle this shape makes sense with what the ship is trying to do, and do some editing based on that answer. Then the rest is adding medium and small details to compliment the larger shapes.

You can do this with sketching, or in a simple 3d application, lots of different ways. Good luck!

'Discovery one' lent the front part for this one?

Yup, that was indeed the inspiration

Cool idea... Next generation deep space ships using almost whole of the old vessels as pods! Space travel goes huge :)
