I'd like to suggest that you have a place for tutorials on digitally drawing straight lines. I can't find any of those ANYWHERE.

Try holding the shift key while you draw a line. That works in most programs that I know of! ^-^

Does that work in Photoshop Elements? I don't have the full version 'cause it won't fit on my laptop.

It certainly works on Photoshop 6.0, but I'm not sure about Elements since I never used it before. They're both Adobe, so I think there would be a good chance it would work.

Well..i think you folks have created the single greatest asset to deviantArt...a place where not only can people become better artists...but a place to encourage the ones that are not as well.

This group is the best group of all time.

Maybe you should have a spriting/pixel art section? I know sprites can be difficult, especially really small or large ones, and I have gotten stumped with a few (eg "If I remove this pixel, it looks wonky, but if I keep it it looks like the elbow could be used as a knife")

I know I'd have a few tutorials I could make and a few tips I could give for that

Check this section: General Anime/Manga Style Tutorials

Use your web browser [CTRL+F] to search for "chibi." I'm pretty sure there's at least one in there. =)

I wasn't totally sure which category you'd want this tutorial in:

[link]

It is a horse pixel shading tutorial for GIMP. Maybe you should create a pixel category? There are plenty of great pixel tutorials on the DA.

:iconartistshospital:
ArtistsHospital Featured By Owner Sep 13, 2009
Thanks a lot! I put it under GIMP for now.

What programs do people use for pixel art? I mean, are there favorites, or do people use anything and everything?

Knowing will help me decide how to section it off...
Reply
:iconfearlessfilly:
FearlessFilly Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2009
People use everything from MS Paint to GIMP, to PS. You could maybe section it off either according to program, or according to whether the tutorial is an animal tutorial or a sprite tutorial, etc.

Ouch... I checked :iconparallellogic:'s clubSEARCH [link] and, out of 10 pixel art clubs (including a couple more general clubs that include pixel art), only 2 are still active. :iconpixelacademy: and :iconpixel-artists:.

Well, at least you found 2. Those look like very nice clubs. :) There are a whole plethora of tutorials if you search the DA box. :)

In that case, I think I'll organize it by program and give each program (the ones that have substantial pixel tutorials out there, at least) a section for pixel art.

I imagine that people looking for pixel art tuts would rather see ones for the program they're using, and they probably have a favorite program (or two) and stick with it.

Hmm, I wonder if there are active pixel art clubs out there!

Good idea, although a lot of pixel techniques are very similar even with different programs, that is still a good method of organization. :)

Actually, after seeing the level of interest the poll indicates, I think I'll make pixel art its own section.

The polls surprise me almost every time! =D
