I will never jaded of the song of the steppes. The rustle of grass being caressed by the wind, the endless plains stretching out before the eyes, the shade from the Deer Stones, the warmth of my steed between my legs... The days I spend riding in my family's territory, to hunt and watch over it, are not a chore, but the very essence of freedom itself. I know that in the end, I will return to my yurt to find my wife, kids and parents. My youngest will then fix me with his big black eyes and, while stroking my worn armor, ask me:
''Tell me a story, aav''
So I will relate him my story. I will describe the beauty of thousands of nomadic horsemen charging across the steppes. I will tell him about conquests, battles, honour and glory. I will recount to him the exploits of my Khan and of the victories won with bows and spears. In the end, I will embrace my little son and, whispering in his hair, will say to him :
''One day, it will be your turn, khüü. I will give you my bow and my armor, and you will fight to protect those you love''

Je ne me lasserai jamais du chant des steppes. Le bruissement de l'herbe caressée par le vent, les plaines infinies s'étirant au-delà du regard, l'ombre des Pierres de Cerfs, la chaleur de ma monture entre mes cuisses... Les jours que je passe, chevauchant sur le territoire familial, à chasser et à veiller, ne sont point une corvée mais bien le sens même de la liberté. Je sais qu'à la fin, je rentrerai à ma yourte et retrouverai ma femme, mes enfants et mes parents. Mon plus jeune me fixera alors de ses grands yeux noirs et, caressant mon armure usée, me demandera:
"Conte-moi une histoire, Aav!"
Et alors je lui conterai mon histoire. Je lui décrirai la beauté des milliers de cavaliers nomades chargeant à travers les steppes. Je lui parlerai de conquêtes, de batailles, d'honneur et de gloire. Je lui narraterai les exploits de mon Khan et les victoires gagnées par l'arc et la lance. À la fin, j'enlacerai mon cadet et, murmurant dans ses cheveux, je lui dirai:
"Un jour, ce sera ton tour, khüü. Je te donnerai mon arc et mon armure, et tu te battras pour protéger ceux que tu aimes"
