Scriptwriter here. As far as I remember, when naming him I wanted to both reference Q from Star Trek and also Discord (yes, I know that Discord himself is a huge reference to Q, don't question my logic). So I took first letter from "Discord" and thus D - the ultimate embodiment of chaos - was created.
Well, the game does depict him at the time he is studying at the Harmony Academy. Which is long before his stone imprisonment by Celestia and Luna in our book. So there's actually no reason for him looking so old (Eris, though, also looks quite alike her older self - guess your look doesn't change that much after university).
He's actually the main and only animator, and also an art director for the game. Besides him there is currently only one artist working on the game - it's , who painted this magnificent poster and does backgrounds and other inanimate stuff for the game.
I think that Dark Souls 2 is way more dangerous for the development than Hasbro. I mean, Fighting is Magic got C&D and was eventually finished. I can't promise, though, that after Dark Souls 2 comes out on the PC I won't be spending day after day in it, forgetting about game development :b
