That is exquisite. ^^ But don't the female reindeer usually have smaller antlers...? ;) Or do they have antlers at all?

"According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year (the only members of the deer family, Cervidae, to have females do so), male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring."

Both male AND female reindeer have antlers and no, they are not necessarily smaller than male antlers.

My goodness. ^^ Thank you for telling me.

It's odd that the females would drop theirs after conceiving. I'd think they need their antlers for defensive purposes more than ever once they've got children.

You have amazing talent and I love seeing what you do next!  This is marvelous!  I'm going to sound like an animal nerd but I think it's really appropriate that this is a reindeer princess and not a prince.  Male reindeer shed their antlers in the winter, while females shed them in the spring.  :)  It follows that, biologically speaking, Santa's reindeer should all be females.  Buuuut, there's always the magic aspect to deal with.  :)  Magic doesn't really follow rules and, clearly, Santa's reindeer are magic...since they can fly. :)  Anyway, I just thought I would share that.  I found it interesting when my mammalogy professor told us that antler tid bit. Great art, though!  I love it!
