I remember being super duper excited to do this idea. But once I put the sketches down I realized how much work it was going to be. Hence the two year wait time. But none of that matters now. I probably sound like a broken record by at this point talking about how long ago I started pieces and why they took me so long. But you know, I like to chatter.
So anyway, the idea for this piece is pretty straightforward. I wanted to depict them meeting kind of happenstance in an art museum and come across this painting of them in their past lives. Like a cute AU. You can imagine for yourself what scenario comes next.
As I said, this piece was started awhile ago, so I don't know if I would execute it the same way. But after all was said and done I rather like the way everything turned out. If nothing else it was a legitimate reason to draw them in modern clothes. And you know I love that.
Well, as always, I hope you guys enjoy the piece. Until the next one, my dudes.
I LOVE this!!!
I want to know *SO BAD* what that card says that she's holding! I'm guessing it's the title of the art piece perhaps? I can see that the bottom says: "Art Exhibit", but I can't read the top. I hope you let us know! ^_^
Also, here is the thought I had while looking at this photo. Hopefully my bud will write a story about it one day. ^_^ (Since I'm no writer. XD)
So there's this portrait hanging up at a museum, and it's been there for a while now. Neither Katra nor Zuko have met the other yet. But both have "found" the painting the same way. Their friends saw it first and told them "Man, you have GOT to check out this painting! The person in it looks SO MUCH LIKE YOU! It's crazy!" So of course they checked it out and are both astonished that their friends were right.
Wondering what in the world it means, they often revisit it. But for a long while, they never cross paths. (They go to different colleges) Both try and do some research and try to find out where the artist is, but the artist uses a "pen name" and probably isn't even in the country right now to question. So instead they both eventually discover the "lore" of this painting (Blue Spirit and Painted Lady) and more research leads them to the history of Fire Lord Zuko and Fire Lady Katara who once masqueraded around as none other than the Blue Spirit and Painted Lady, and how neither knew the other one did, and they didn't find out until they fell in love and told one another. Eventually getting married.
What's more, the story goes on to tell about how the Great Fire Lord and Fire Ladies love was said to be SO GREAT, that legend has it they are reincarnated each life time, always finding the other. Because not even death can keep them apart for long.
Both feeling sad and alone, as neither have time for a relationship at the moment, with this new knowledge, they both decide to once again visit this painting to look upon it with a new light. At first, they think nothing of the other visitor and don't even give them a second glance, opting to first look once again upon the painting.
Eventually, curiosity gets the better of them and they both glance towards one another, and say.......nothing.
They just stare. They can not believe they are staring at the other person in the photo with them.
But since they both now know the back story, Zuko is the first to smile at Katara. And she immediately smiles back....
I mean, i adore Aang with Katara, but i gotta say that this pairing would have been more intense and sexy
