Help for my dog Lisa
Help for my dog Lisa Update *** News 29.04. below added Hello my dears! Perhaps you have noticed that I have not been very active in the past month on DA.

Reference photos and how to use them: part 1
First, a small disclaimer: this is how I use reference photos. It's not the one true way of doing things, so if you disagree with something - then just don't do it. I still hope this article will give you some tips and tricks, as well as some things to think about.
Also, this article will mostly focus on references of animals and nature, considering I draw animals and nature and have the most experience with this. The tips will still count for references of other things too, though.
What are reference photos?
Reference photos are, in short, photos you look at and often try (to an extent) to copy in your artwork. The most typical example is in realistic work, when someone chooses a photo and tries to copy it as exact as possible. It is also possible to use the photos to a smaller extent - for example, to find a nice color scheme (I know of instances where someone has used photos of sunlit snow to help with lighting on white fur). In some cases you'll also use multiple references for

Search in favourites is back!
Search through your most-loved deviations with ease!
Search in favourites is back by popular demand! Click on the magnifying glass at the top right of your favourites page (or someone else’s) to search for specific artwork you love.
DeviantArt’s search systems were upgraded in 2022, at which point the difficult decision was made to phase out search in favourites, which was dependent on a legacy search system that was prohibitively costly to maintain considering its usage rate. Although search in favourites was used by just 0.5% of the active community, it was well-liked and used often by the most active deviants.
Seeing the passionate response from the community in the wake of its removal, the DeviantArt team worked to upgrade the system that powers search in favourites to improve its efficiency and make it less costly to maintain, and now it’s ready for you to use. Happy searching!
