Actually, there's nothing wrong with "soft focus" on background and foreground objects. Film directors use this technique routinely. Eyes should be on the characters and their efforts / interaction. If the viewers' gaze is wandering around in the scenery, it means the centerpiece isn't holding their attention. Background elements are meant to give context to the scene and nothing more.

Once again, I'm seeing your mood-specific lighting put to excellent use. These practice sessions are paying gorgeous dividends, congratulations.

That's actually what I was aiming for...I think the main complaint was maybe lack of overall detail because of rushing it...which I'll admit guilty as charged, but you nailed it with adding quick context.

Thanks so much! Hopefully by this time next year, I can improve on background skills...

Not from what I've seen in your gallery! You do some killer stuff! Just put a little more time into doing shading/coloring as well as line-work...That's part of the secret to good art and there's no shortcut...Time. My pieces would actually be infinitely better if I put a little more time into them. Maybe I'll do one that I put in 24-48 hours into (or more) just to show an example.

Really? Wow, hearing that from you makes me feel very flattered #^_^#

I used to color, but not so much anymore. I stink with PS and copics. As for shading and lighting, I have no idea why I can't get those simple concepts down. I just can't draw shadows or bright spots for some reason.

If i were to give som constructive critisism, i don't think you should have used such a fluffy brush for the sourroundings or at least use a more sharp brush for the edges. ;) Otherwise it's a great pic and i love the shadows in it. I think i have never found gargoyles cute until just now :)

Thanks, Sylvester! I'm *really* weak with backgrounds but I'll take your suggestions to heart and will work on making better/sharper backgrounds. I think I've got a good idea on how to do it with brushes....

heh, certainly cute, with some nice dynamics with the whole nighttime setting.
Some good stuff. Nice to see you're keeping busy without your EGAD obligations. ^V^

Thanks LoneCrow! Not exactly EGAD, but I figured it would be good practice to keep drawing every day... It's going to make up for way too many years of putting things off...
