Beautiful and evocative.  Have you read "Boy in Darkness", a Gormenghast short story? Titus looks out of the window to watch the sunset in just this way. We learn that the clocks in the South Wing are always slow, and the people of Gormenghast have a saying "slow as a southern chime".
