the devil tempted him more than the three times he did in matthew chapter 4. he tempted the lord through peter when He announced that he'd be killed and resurrected on the third day and also in many other ways. jesus knew His bible well.daily reading and meditation of god's word can help us also be like jesus: overcoming every temptation the devil throws in our face.

I love how our lord refused the temptations from the wicked one, adam and eve were tricked by lucifer's temptations, and probably some other people, but our lord was great enough to not be tricked. It gives me a good feeling

well, he knew his bible really well. all those verses he quoted were from the psalms- you can read them for yourself and overcome the devil like He did.

Do you ever notice in this part of Matthew ( if im correct ) Satan kept saying "If" a lot. In my heart and beliefs there is no 'If' in GOD. :) To me 'If' sounds like a word of doubt.

And interesting image.

Well painted.

However, it is my belief that with regard to satan (I refuse to capitalize the name, hence the lower case "s"), I do not think that Jesus Christ would allow satan to lay but a single finger upon His Divine Body and Essence as per your depiction.

Granted, I am not dismissing your talent nor the emotion / theme that you so eloquently created, but I feel that if an individual were to reflect upon Jesus Christ both being the Son of God and the Son of Man incarnate (in one body, and all "Divine"), I think that an individual would conclude that Jesus would not let the pinnacle of evil incarnate touch His Divine Body. Nada.

To do so would be akin to letting a nanosecond of darkness to exist within a realm of brillant light. The sum of the whole would for that moment be "tainted" by that spot of darkness. In essence, I think that satan would never have been allowed by Jesus Christ to touch or embrace Himself in the manner depicted in your image because satan and his legions of fallen angels have been cast from the unfathomable purity of Heaven and into the abyss of Hell back at the time of Lucifer's uprising in Heaven. They can see it but not touch it forevermore. They wail and gnash their teeth at the prospect of eternal damnation, and I think that knowing this is but one element of truly being / existing in "Hell". Akin to an individual dying of thirst and within view of a refreshingly cool cup of water but just beyond their reach. They see it and know that it shall quench their thrist, but they know that they cannot put it to their lips and consume it to ameliorate their thrist. THAT is but one element of Hell.

I do think that as per the Scriptural accounts that Jesus allowed Himself to be tempted by satan in order to illustrate that He was and is whom He claimed to be. Both God and Man incarnate but bearing the epitomy of each trait but in one body (and a mortal one at that), fully within both worlds. He became one of us and is one of us, yet He is God as well. He poured forth of Himself in order to become one of "us". And in doing so, He allowed Himself to be tempted as human beings are, but with the caveat that He would show humankind (by His example) that if He could withstand temptations and great hardships, THEN we as humans in all of our fraility, could do so as well.

OK then, I shall conclude here. Thank you for reading my comment and I hope that I was able to explain myself fully on what I hold near and dear to my heart on Jesus being so far above and beyond the realm of satan that He would not let a single atom of evil rest itself upon His Divinity.

Take care,

vertebrae242

Thank you for your passionate and informed comment. You certainly have a good point and one that is worth noting. As an artist I choose what I feel will emphasize the drama of the moment. I look to illustrate the real human qualities in my characters should they be religious, mythological or just exceptional. As an artist, I will use whatever tools I have to build that without going outside the realm of truth or plausibility.

Oh, I am all for you to be able to use your creative gifts and artistic abilities in whatever work you choose to create. No issue there whatsoever.

I just wanted to clarify / state an opinion or observation (granted, it wasn't requested by anyone - moreso of my volunteering it in the first place :blahblah: ) with regard to the depiction of Jesus Christ and satan in this manner. Some people may or may not be aware of what following Christ entails or what we, as Humans with all of our limitations and foibles, are expected to know once we choose to do so or choose to investigate Biblical / theological History.

But once again, I understand that you utilized your artistic talents to convey a theme or an atmosphere (i.e. theme) of what was going on in the image.

Thanks again for your kind reply as well as a little background on how you flesh out the characters depicted in them as such.

Take care armusik,

vertebrae242 ;)
