Shadow Play III by arminmersmann Shadow Play III by arminmersmann

Shadow Play III, Graphite on Strathmore 400.  22” x 30”

First drawing completed in eight months.  I had major quad fusion surgery in May and I could draw until the end of October I also could draw for four months before because the pain was so bad, but its all but the pain is all gone now

I want back to a familiar subject nothing particularly creative or narrative here, but it was a test to see if I could darken everything on the paper except of the highlights which I then left the white tone of the paper, if they would pop.  The bulb took around 40 hours to draw the background 50.

PS left the pencils to indicate scale

Beautiful work Armin! You say the background was more work to do. Is that because it looks white but is a soft even grey tone (apart from the shadow of course)? Just a small question because I know how hard a background can be to draw even though it looks simple.

wow. . I thought it was just an amazing photpgraph of an interesting bulb.. :o Still, it's an interesting bulb too!  Some kind of high bright halogen with overheat protection..
No matter the bulb, amazing pencil work!

P.S. I was wondering about those pencils. Hee-Hee. You don't typically do that except when you have your models pose beside their drawings. :)

Stunning as usual. Hope you continue to be pain free! Do you even work in really small scale?

So your paper is actually white?   I can't get my drawings to have the paper  'white' without lightening all the details in grey.  It's a standoff for me.

Armin, hope the work done on you is 1/10th as good as the work you do in that case you'll be good as gold. Nod
