Forty-nineTrips Around the Sun by arminmersmann Forty-nineTrips Around the Sun by arminmersmann
Pencil on board 15” x 32”

Thank to all of you who have commented on this work in progress, I am still trying to get back to all of you. The drawing is finally done. I wanted this as dark as possible without being undistinguishable. The shirt/sweater has a very fine weave but stays pretty much in the dark. The light comes mainly form the window in the back with some secondary lighting form the front. The two-point perspective was influenced by some of Escher’s work , on to the next one….

And finally, the master himself is revealed!

Technically superb as usual. Your skill with texture and shading is remarkable. This is a refined portait.

What I'd like to know is did you draw this from a large photo, or is this off head? I can't even begin to image how much skill you have if it WAS from head.... Hell, if it was the photo option, I'm still amazed!! Question- You obvoiusly use a bold pencil of sorts, but is it a common brand pencil, or a solid lead one? Also, I can't tell how you shaded this- is at the texture on your face from the board, or did you manage to do some dotting type technique for this? The time spent on this is very apparent. Alot of people here wouldn't understand the time to get all of these details down ^^ I know I spend ages on my pictures (sure they don't get as an impressive result, but I never took any schooling ^^ ), and the ones I spend the time on show. This one has had alot of thought put intot he hair and skin- that must've take you ages- and I admire that. There are few this persistant bar an artist ^^

Wow, is this ever stunning. "On to the next one"? Does that mean you're already busy starting on something else? I admire your dedication to these pieces, and you seem to have such a drive to work. You must truly love your art. I don't know if I'll ever be able to compare to your skill, but you're certainly an inspiration, and I'll strive to match your perseverance. Thank you for letting all of us watch your progress with this one- it turned out beautifully!

wow. i am completely stunned; this is absolutely amazing. but i'm sure the other 27 people before me have already said that though =) criticizing this is really difficult, all i can say is that the neck area seems to be a little too grainy, and blends right into the texture of the shirt. but overall this is amazing (especially the hair, wow!) and you are a very insipiring artist =) this definitely merits a fav, awesome work.
