This one was inspired by some of the Hudson River school paintings, especially one piece from Albert Bierstadt. Things started with a portrait mode painting with a fairy looking at the water, but later I realised the strong part of the painting was a small portion of the original. The subject also changed during the process. I’m still developing my painting style with lots of the inspiration coming from the loose style of Richard Schmidt. I’m currently rereading his book Alla Prima.

It was the first painting where I shared the process with my Facebook audience. For the painting steps of this painting and the future ones you can check the Facebook page at…. Remember to like the page in case you want notifications for all the updates.

For the man I used a stock photo of a pirate by mizzd-stock ( It must’ve been put into storage or deleted since I couldn’t find the picture any more. For the ferret I used this as a reference:….

You have got a lot of skill with landscapes and colors. All your works are just so beautiful... like this one. Its a simple sort of scene... just a guy fishing... but his pose and everything make it seem like theres a real story behind it.

How I'd love to be in his place right now. The lighting effect is maybe the best part of this picture. It is really glowing. I also like the rough style of the trees in the background, that style is unique to you and gives a strong impression of old, gnarled spruce trees.
