Image inspired by Loreena McKennitt's "Bonny Swans" Especially the line about the harp...
"He made harp pins of her fingers fair
with a hey ho and a bonny o
He made harp strings of her golden hair
the swans swim so bonny o
He made a harp of her breast bone
with a hey ho and a bonny o
And straight it began to play alone
the swans swim so bonny o"

Not so easy to make a harp out of a breastbone, though. The top part is bird pelvis :P

Note: I am aware there are several variations on the song, and that it is based originally off of an older story. Loreena McKennitt's version sticks in my mind the most, however, so that is why it is listed as inspiration.

Made a Harp of Her Breastbone by *arikla is a beautifully colored and interestingly surrealistic tradtional piece from the Anthro gallery. A fine touch of colored pencil and a great sense of movement really bring this whimsical image to life. ( Featured by MPsai )

Thank-you :) It is a popular song/theme and a traditional song as well, so several Celtic and Irish groups have done variations on it :)

the song sounds like "the wind and the rain" by Altan. same words (except for the swan bit).

Ahhh, The Bonny Swans. Such a sad song...but fitting when the maid, as the harp, returns to her "family" and plays before them. This piece deserves it's reward! Very, very much WIN and AWSUMS! ~cries with JOY!~

Very nice image. :-) I like that you have made a swanthro to play it :-)

It's not a that kind of harp, though. It's like the Finnish kantele or zither type of harp. In the Finnish folklore a hero made a harp of the jawbone of a giant pike, and that form is similar to the breast bone.

Another fan of Loreena McKennitt! Thought I'd never see the day when I'd meet another person who loves her works as much as I do. Your art is amazing! The Bonny Swans is one of my favorite songs by her.

I have a deviation related to her music as my Featured Deviation; but your art is just wonderful!

Did anybody else not see the swan the first time they looked at it? If you just look at the beak, it looks like a tiny cloaked figure beside a huge harp, standing on an ancient carcass.
