Valdivia 2004

By ArielRGH
Oil on canvas. The river harbour and market, as it was in 2004. The elements are still there today, but the earthquake in 2010 forced the restoration of the green areas, plus many things have been repainted since then. But I wanted to paint this for a long time.

This is by far the most complex thing I have ever attempted.

I used to think my own work was detailed, but this is something else - excellent stuff.
I like the way things change over time and I feel that this 'historical record' seems to add value to paintings, becoming more interesting as time passes.

Thank you Phil :D
Here's a 2014 picture with a similar view, showing what it looks like today, after the restoration:…

Not too different, just a lot busier!  This link is a great idea alongside the painting.  Well done again.

Hello, doc! How have you been?

Thanks for uploading more of your work. It's always a pleasure to see what you are up to. And from what I am looking at, you're definitely up to something really cool. I am sorry to hear that part of the scenery has changed due to a natural disaster, but I think you have brought its former glory to life with your painting. You've done a fantastic job at it. It might have been the most complex thing you have attempted, but you have done a great job at it!
