I would like to formally welcome each and every one of you to the official deviant365 (https://www.deviantart.com/deviant365) group! We have a fantastic year ahead for all of you filled with events, contests, weekly tasks and perhaps most importantly, prizes! Every week we will be posting a task that hopes to get those creative juices flowing in your mind. Sometimes they will be simple, sometimes you might have to submit art, and sometimes they might be a week long task you partake in! But in every case, we hope to make them fun!
Happy New Year, and may these tasks lead you to your greatest endeavor!
This week the task is to answer this question: What are yo
Back By Popular Demand!
In January of 2012, the community was challenged by thorns (https://www.deviantart.com/thorns) to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on LiliWrites (https://www.deviantart.com/liliwrites)'s account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again!
:new: UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!! :onfire: Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you
Art History Photography Month has begun and where better to start than with the History of Photography! I appreciate not everything is included, but here are some key main events and features, images and happenings that have impacted Photography across the years. If you don't want to read it all, scroll to the bottom for my tl;dr handy summary ;)
This is said to be where it all began with Alhazen inventing the first pinhole camera - known as Camera Obscura. Heard the phrase before? Now you know where it originates from! Aristotle observed and noted in around 330BC the optic laws that made pinhole cameras possible and questioned why
This little feature is now into the double digits of editions :woohoo:. This wasn't something I that had I planned on doing. Originally this was just a one off article because I was bored one day, and started typing in random search words. It is still fun to do though, so I think it will keep going until it no longer is.
The things that make one piece of art great applies, for the most part, to other genres. A painter can
learn how light and shadow fall from photography, photo-manipulators can learn about composition from a great Manga drawing, and literature can give you the inspiration to try something new or take your work to the next s
I received more than double the entries from last year to the Complaint Challenge! There are definite serious business complaints, but what always amazes me are the deviant conversations that spring up. You can even find a couple posts with replies for assistance. This makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. :dalove:
Many of you know what Phase 2 is all about, so I expect if you've entered Phase 1, you'll at least try to enter Phase 2. If you can spare the effort to complain, you can spare the effort to do something about your complaint! There will be more on that tomorrow tonight so check back then!
For now, let's announce those random

:new: Because the panda origami is a challenge that may be difficult for
a beginner, deviants are welcome to create ANY origami within the month
to qualify for the Artisan Crafts Challenge Prize Pool.
:note: You must craft something using the origami methods for this particular challenge (there are more challenges to
come)--those who do craft the panda will be regarded as an exceptional artisan and increase their odds of winning a prize.
Welcome to 2013 deviants! :dalove:
In support of seniormentors (https://www.deviantart.com/seniormentors) new Monthly Mentors project you are all being challenged to delve into the handywork of Artisan Crafts. :la:
That must be a good sign of things to come in 2013, right?
I've avoided writing an end-of-year journal because I already share most of my thoughts here. If you wanted to read what my year was like, you would have already done so. :) I will say that 2012 was a mixed-bag. There was a lot of good, a lot of bad, and a whole helluva lot of blah. So, having the first day of 2013 feel good makes me feel good.
My friend Terry is to blame for all of this. I met him a couple years ago before I moved to NC. He works in ALL of my favorite places: the local library, the local radio station, the downtown bookstore, and the downtown movie theater. I mean,

Moving forwards with the praising life project: learn how you can contribute. A quote and artist will be featured as often as I can.
I am hoping to reach at least 300 inspiring messages from the community if I can.
At the end of this year, 2013, ten calenders and 16 three month PMS will be given away to inspired deviants.(that means random/anyone. :dummy:)
The calenders to remind you of how special every day is, and notebooks because they can inspire you to try something new artistically.
However, the points cost of this project's completion is around: 30,176 points.
The main focus, however, is your inspiring words.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from CRPhotomanipulation (https://www.deviantart.com/crphotomanipulation)! I hope the coming year brings each of you peace, prosperity, and CREATIVITY!
We have lots of stuff coming up in the coming year. We're trying to organize some photomanip workshops in the coming weeks, and we are also hoping to have some more creativity challenges.
And, of course, our official photomanip contest will start on January 15th. :XD: We are still looking for prize donors and groups who might want to partner with us.
As you've probably noticed, I haven't had much time to do anything with Project Newbie. When you have a lot going on, sometimes you have t
Hallo everyone, I hope you all got through the transition into 2013 mostly unscathed!
This is just a short piece of correspondence to let you know about some current Community Relations-led events that might be of interest and relevance to the Abstract & Surreal community. Feel free to take part, or to inform me of other abstract and surreal happenings that I could promote.

The PhotoHunt chat, hosted by AshleyxBrooke (https://www.deviantart.com/ashleyxbrooke), is holding a special event on the 12th January at 14:00 EST. Lots of prizes are being given away and it's definitely worth your time if you've a free few hours to take photographs in a time-l

To sum it up, `Arichy (https://www.deviantart.com/arichy) is raising a project which is where we are gathering enough :points: to be able to give to children in one/two orphanages in Christmas 2013.
Personally, I think this is a great idea. For most of you, you must be happy to be able to live in a family with parents who care for you, love you.
But for these children, they haven't got anyone close to them to care for. These children must be miserable to not be able to have

If you run a google search on what are the top famous Photographs of all time, The Afghan Girl is sure to appear. She is truly a face from History and one that many across the globe have tried to capture within others time and time again. But what exactly has made this image and its photographer so captivating?
Source: Daily Mail/National Geographic/Steve McCurry
Eyes, they say, are the window to the soul. And capturing such a piercing and expressive look in a photograph is a highly sought after skill. The Afghan Girl exhibits suspense, suspicion and a sense of distrust at the person behind the lens, she gives off an air of maturity, a for

Hello Everyone
TimberClipse (https://www.deviantart.com/timberclipse) recently announced a new project for 2013! The Art-for-Artists Project is an opportunity for artists in the deviantART Community to use points to help fund a fellow-artists' artistic endeavor. For more information, please see this blog>
Donations in points will then be awarded to deviants as money as a way to help them complete an artistic endeavor. This project is community run and for the community.
Thank you for your time!
Hallo, and welcome to a special preview edition of my regular Friday Feature series. This is rather out of synchronisation with my usual scheduling but this is definitely an exception worth taking. I present to you MarcinTurecki (https://www.deviantart.com/marcinturecki)'s self-portrait: a layered glass plate and typography sculpture of immaculate execution and narrative, and one that I feel is my duty to share with the abstract and surreal community at large.
In the words of the artist: "These conceptual works were created by thinking about reflections upon specific books. As an example, one of these was 622 Downfalls of Bungo by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz: this book describes
