Keeping Up with Thursday, Issue 3 page 4

Hello everyone, it's that time again~! All of Issue 3 of my webcomic "Keeping Up with Thursday" is getting the reboot and renovation project treatment. Pages will be spruced up, cleaned up, and either redone entirely or simply re-edited to make sure everything flows a little bit better. Two years after it's initial arrival in June 2011, my webcomic has undergone a big change in art design and program tools (and skills) which could sincerely help bringing about a new audience.

A different take on Patrick's original "lecture" from the originals, but otherwise straight to the point. Patrick's personality shows here; he's not quite down for the team, and seems rather snarky...

Just a simple guys' chat. No problem at all.

I love your expressions.

Hahaha, thanks. xD

I'm not too happy with how the text came out. It was a last minute fix when the page went up originally on DD. It was too tiny, originally. x_x

I know you look for constructive crit on these things, but I've given you all the CC I can and since you don't have the tools to be able to really apply the things, there's not a whole lot more I can give you there except maybe practice those new techniques with pencil and paper, even if you don't have the capability to show it off here. That way when you have the capability, you can jump right into it.

I know. :) There's nothing else I can really ask for from you. But as said, I am very thankful for what you've provided. :)

I'm hoping others will continue what you've done; you've been an amazing help. :) Even if not feedback in the artist's sense, then at least something to tell me their thoughts about the comic. I'm kinda stretched as far as advertising goes.

I've been kinda worried whether I've lost an audience at this point or gained any. xD

Well, I can say from my point of view that I like the direction your going with Horace, adding a bit of a twist to the character who we thought we knew on the surface. You've been pretty good on clarity ever since I've pointed it out long ago. I notice that the models of the character change a little from frame to frame but that's because you're drawing with a mouse and not working with vectors to be able to push and pull points with ease to keep the models honest.

Yeah. I don't know if my Flash tool has a vector option, but I can try looking into it tonight, or see if GIMP/SAI has it.

If you are drawing these out in Flash, then by yes everything you are doing is vector based! Here's a neat trick in Flash. Make a simple shape like a line or a square and then find a spot on the shape where you want to make a new vector point. Make sure your black arrow tool is selected. Then hold down CTRL and click on the spot you chose and start dragging. It'll make a new vector point there and will bend the shape according to how far you push/pull it. I'm letting you know this, because this is how I usually start my new character/prop creation. I start with simple lines or/and shapes and start pulling and pushing new points until it starts "forming" the shape I want. Also, never underestimate the smooth tool! I have it hotkey'd myself so I can smooth something I select several times over in a jif! And if you oversmooth something, you can always keep undoing it until it looks right again.
BTW, I've got 2 pages of T&C issue 1 done, and am waiting to post them because I'm still waiting on Kasey to make that damn logo! I'm really happy with how it's turning out and I've also redesigned the characters heads to be more like I draw them on paper, plus they have a more defined "snout" now. Get ready for your competition, fool!

Oh wow! :3 I never knew that! I knew how to bend a straight line by dragging it around, but this sounds a lot easier! I think I'll give it a go on a practice image, and maybe show you the result. :D

Hahahaha. x3 That's really cool, please show me! :3

Yes, well, you working for CH and attending animation conventions, being skilled and talented, gives you the huge leg-up on this competition. xD I'll be nowhere near yours or :cdmalcolm:, :iconseikou: league. xD
