Portrait Tutorial, Part One by arelia-dawn Portrait Tutorial, Part One by arelia-dawn
HUGE GIGANTIC RIDICULOUS CRAZY BIG FILE. You have been warned.

PART TWO: [link]

PART THREE: [link]

Anyway, for some time now, various people have been asking me for tutorials on my sexy art skills. Well...here it is. It's my first serious tutorial--and my explanatory skills are not very good--so it kind of sucks, but oh, well. Maybe it'll help a little bit.

Part One of Undetermined Amount (which will most likely be three). The next in this series will probably cover noses (yay!) and lips; the third will cover hair. Oh, and I guess a fourth will teach about clothing and jewelry and all that stupid stuff that I'm not good at.

Anyway, hope you enjoy and at least find something helpful! Critiques are welcome.

wow those eyes look stunning! Also, thank you so much for this...I can't count how many semi-realistic shading/coloring tuts don't get into that much detail or they forget to mention the fact that you have to paint on top of the the sketch. It's somewhat scary to think of, right? At least it freaks me out, like every stroke I've always tried to make perfect and yet then it gets messed up, you try to fix it with the blur and...yikes! I really like your method and instruction, I'll have to try it so thank you so much for this!

You're so welcome! I remember when I first ventured into all the realism tutorials, and I was so frustrated for the exact reasons you said--they leave out one game-changing detail, or don't say to paint in layers, etc. A lot of my techniques come from things I learned in traditional painting, where there's no undo button xD. That's mainly why I paint over and refine rather than erase and start over.

I think that's a splendid idea, thanks so much for taking the time to explain! Yeah I know, traditional painting is the way to go I think, at least for beginners to understand what you are even doing hahah

Thanks! I think I mentioned it there, but I'm sorry if I didn't. I used Photoshop 6.
