Look within before looking without.
This isn't the painting I was planning on, but it is certainly one I am glad of. After a week of following news in Egypt, both archeological and otherwise, I found that I was no longer in the right mindset for "The Lion and the Unicorn" piece I tried to start Monday. Instead, my thoughts turned to this pose, which I've had printed and stored in my studio since last fall, waiting for just the right moment and painting. The model is the beautiful Lockstock [link] who I also used for "When Titania Wakes." I love the intense motion/emotion of her figure, her vulnerable, yet strong expression and dramatic lighting. The color scheme was inspired by my painting, "Illumination"; so soon as I finished it, I wanted to try something similar with a human subject. The title is courtesy of my pirate, who suggested it while passing through my studio.
