Equus is an obscure act that has only released two albums to date; however, their sound is remarkably astute within the genre of instrumental music. Their début is a sprawling, hypnotic ocean of a record, tinged as much by 1970s progressive bands as much as anything contemporary. Their second release changes direction substantially, forging a similar path to the offbeat releases of This Will Destroy You and Year Of No Light with a silent film-score composition that borders on drone and deconstructed ambient rhythm. While far removed from their first effort, it's just as atmospherically powerful.
