This week I have selected Cloudkicker, an outfit from the United States whose huge sound belies the fact it's a one-man show. His latest three albums are a treat to the ears; instrumental rock at its finest with each a distinct aesthetic. Beacons is a frenzied assault on the senses, made all the more poignant by the concept that each song title is a quote taken from blackbox recordings of downed aeroplanes. Let Yourself Be Huge is much more serene, making great use of clean and acoustic guitar and winding song passages, while Fade is a grand mix of the sounds present in the previous two releases.
Now, I know the discussion of music can be an emotionally charged subject for some people, but I'm not claiming that anything is better than anything else. This is no more than a soap-box for me to promote music that I enjoy; maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. That's fine!
If you've any recommendations based on this artist, or wish to promote some music that you yourself enjoy, please do so in the comments. Maybe I'll end up enjoying something enough to feature it myself. :]
