"City of Angles" by Stefan Gagne - go read it. It's free, it's great, find it here
Then be cool and go buy the books. And check out his other stuff.

Before I ramble more about City of Angles or the picture, I gotta say something.
I got this thing called "Lazy Nezumi" and I'm currently using it in trial mode. But it's awesome. And I'll get the full version as soon as I can spare the cash. I didn't exactly have anything to truly test it on, so I started up a new image to see how it fits into my workflow and how good it actually is. I have to say, it's pretty amazing. It sped up the "inking" a lot and made it feel really good (instead of dozens of line re-draws, it generally took less than half a dozen). Smooth cell shading was a breeze. Keeping small detail adequately smooth was super easy.
If you have trouble keeping your lines nice and smooth, definitely go check it out. It smooths out both the pen strokes (which were less important for me) as well as the pen pressure changes (which were a lot more important to me) and it does a really good job of it. It also comes with a bunch of extras, like enforcing concentric ellipses, orthographic and perspective lines, making all kinds of patterns and more.
This was a test piece, and I'm still discovering how to pull the most out of it.

It's also a little something to complement my previous creepy girl drawing... A different character from the same universe, and also kinda hard to talk about without spoiling the books a bit. Now, of course, there is much, much more to find out and see past the identity of the character, but still.
Had the idea of making her reflected separately in many shards of a mirror, but I didn't much like the composition of that, so I just smacked a displace filter on it and prettied it up some. I think it turned out ok. Was fun to draw and paint, mostly thanks to Lazy Nezumi, but also due to the simplicity of the scene.

I got the broken glass image from somewhere a good while back, so I kinda feel stupid for not being able to link back to it, and more importantly, if I was even actually, well, allowed to use it. I probably was, since it was on my drive, stored for potential later usage (i.e. now).
