At long last the Archeon Tarot website has been re-launched!

There's also now a Facebook page… and a Twitter feed.

I'll be updating the site regularly over the next few weeks as I try to catch up on all things Archeon.

While the site has been down, I have received a lot of inquires about prints of the individual cards. For those interested, prints will be available soon, and in a higher quality than what has been offered in the past.

Check out the site for all the latest news.

Every so often I get asked how I create my images, and maybe someday I'll work up a proper step by step tutorial, but here's a brief write up of the process which I just wrote at the request of an art student who inquired in regards to a class assignment.

My work generally begins with photography. I have the models come to the studio and do a quick photo session. For me the photography is really just like a quick "sketch" or gesture drawing. I tend to take about 400 pictures in a session, not looking for the perfect image as a traditional photographer would, but rather, just looking to capture the essence of the model and a pose or gesture that sparks my imagination.

From there, I'll transfer the photo to Photoshop where I'll clean it up and begin shaping it to my needs. This often involves some heavy manipulation including swapping hands, heads or other body parts and some basic shaping to really accentuate the features I want to be prominent.

Once the figure emerges, I start layering in colors and textures in the background, looking for some kind of emotional resonance that compliments the figure.

This is really the experimental stage, where anything goes. Often I might have a basic idea of my theme or desired outcome only to see it change drastically as I work and rework the layering.

When I can begin to see everything fall into place as far as color, composition and theme, I start adding in the details and other elements to more actively bring the image to life. I'll add in references from other photography, hand drawn/hand painted elements and anything that I think will add to the work.

Typically this involves a lot of painting over and embellishing. I do most of my painting in Photoshop, using a WACOM tablet.

The finishing stages usually involve adjustments to color, lighting and saturation.

Finally, the image is prepared for printing.

So there you have it.

I was tagged by :iconzethdesign: to post 8 random facts about myself and since I was tired of looking at my out of date last entry I figured what the hell :D

1. I am mostly blind in my left eye. I was the unfortunate victim of a rock throwing incident when I was in junior high and as a result, my left eye was damaged and is not correctable. So... that expression "it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye," I am that someone.

2. Despite never having been to the city of Cincinnati, and growing up in the middle of Pittsburgh Steeler country, I am a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan, and have been since I was in the 6th grade. However, I am also a die hard Pittsburgh Penguins fan. I believe fandom should not be decided by where you live.

3. The first comic book I had a subscription to was The Mighty Thor from Marvel Comics. In my youth, I was a big Marvel Comics fan, but by the end of high school, DC Comics earned my loyalty and now I would never even consider going back to Marvel.

4. The first record I owned and listened to was KISS Alive II, which I played on my Fischer-Price record player. I listened to nothing but KISS and just got their albums (mostly as gifts from my parents) until I was in junior high. The first non KISS record I owned was probably Quiet Riot's Metal Health.

5. I used to read nothing but sci-fi and fantasy for the longest time, but after college I picked up a book by Raymond Chandler and discovered a love for the crime fiction of the pulp era. Now... Chandler, Cain, Hammett, and other authors from the 30s-60s have become my passion.

6. My favorite painting is "Duel after the Masquerade Ball" by Jean-Léon Gérôme. When I was studying art education in college, I saw this painting at the Walters Gallery in Baltimore and it's the most amazing painting I've ever seen. I have a reproduction of it hanging near my computer to inspire me to be better.

7. I love cats. I think they are cute and funny and I just love the little mischief makers. I am not a big fan of dogs. I find most dogs to be annoying... they are either too big or too noisy and I hate when people let their dogs jump all over you.

8. just to be totally random... today I'm wearing a t-shirt that has art and text from the Lunch Money card game. The card is "Humiliation" and the text is "Jesus hates you; and so do I"

consider yourself tagged if you feel so inclined... :D

This is it kids... my final con appearance of 2007.

I'll be fully stocked with prints, archeon tarot, books, and Vs. trading cards for those of you looking for that sort of thing.

I'll also be on hand to just hang out, answer questions and generally have a good time, so if you are at the con swing by table 84 in artist alley and say hello.

This show is loaded with a lot of top talent, so it's an awesome way to end the summer... don't miss it if you're in the area!

I know it's been kind of quiet here lately, but I have been working... just on stuff I'm not allowed to show until the publishing date.

Due to be released next week, DC Comics Vs. World's Finest CCG expansion set!…
Finally I'll be able to show the three images I did for this set, so I'll post them in the gallery soon. (I worked on Calendar Man, Batzarro, and Silver Banshee)

Meanwhile, I've just finished working on three new images for the next set (I have no idea of the release date, but I think the expansion will be called Legends) This time around I was assigned Aztek, Firehawk, and Hawkman & Hawkgirl! All characters I love, so hopefully I did them justice :D

All of that aside...

IN TWO DAYS!!!! I'll be at the Origins International Game Expo!!!

I'll have the usual assortment of prints, tarot and other stuff with me, and additionally some framed limited edition prints.

If you're going to Origins, make sure you come by the artist area and say hello.

See you there,

Thanks to :iconkuschelirmel: my Muse series was chosen for a daily deviation :D

I had no idea what an impact that would have...

I've always been one to try and personally respond to everyone who has left me a comment or tagged an image as a :+fav: but staring at 1,100 message in my message center, there's just no way that's going to happen.

So for everyone who has been kind enough to add me to their watch list or tag an image as a :+fav: I'd just like to say thank you. I am deeply honored and humbled by such a show of support for my work and it is very much appreciated.
