Messerschmitt Me 264 by araeld Messerschmitt Me 264 by araeld
All the picture was made using Photoshop CS2, and is not a photo retouched, it's a drawing.

This is the aircraft wich I've made the week before I catch my vacations. About 25 or 28 hours working.

The Messerschmitt Me 264 is an aircraft for the Second World War, German aircaft I think. I don't know more info for this model. Anybody who knows something more info, contact to me.

This work was made for Altaya Editorial and Accion Press S.A. This illustration was published in a miniatures collection around the world.

The Me 264 was a long range bomber prototype for the German Luftwaffe who, contary to the Allied, has no strategic bomber force. There was only one prototype to test aerodynamics, structure and various engine configurations.
Much has been speculated about this plane as possible "Amerika bomber", or a bomber with range enough to made a bomber trip to the East coast os the U.S. and return. There is some credit about the capabilities to do a transatlantic flight with a 2Tm of bombs, but Germany never had taken seriously the possibility of a bombing retaliation against the U.S. home territory.

My personal opinion: in those days the only method of transatlantic flight is by Airship or by a diesel-powered plane making a non-return flight. To do a returning trip a new kind of powerplant was needed; maybe the still secret steam turbine powerplants being developped by Junkers and other manufacturers.

I just wished they let Junkers to mass produce their Ju 390 which had the range and payload to fly to the states and back with no problem, heck during their try out of it they flew near Manhattan before turning back. IT also had a good defense armament. The Me 264 was built in two prototypes but never really flown and delayed the Ju 390 project which was ready already in 1944. :/

That's really good. The front look like an He111, but, then again, a lot of planes from back then looked like that. I don't believe I've ever heard of the 264, though. They had the 262, the first operational jet fighter, but I've never heard of a 264, so I'm not any help. It is definitely a 1940s era plane, but if I haven't heard of it then it probably wasn't widely used by the Germans. They primarily used 111s and the Junkers 88.

This collection of Aircrafts models is only for prototypes or young models that were modificated for better functionality. It may be a previos model of another that you know, becaus I've needed about 3 days for find info and fotos that help me for drawing the aircraft wirh the correct details. After, my boss retouched the image, because there are an error in above the wing.
Thanks for seeing.
