Trials and Tophulations by Apple-Dee Trials and Tophulations by Apple-Dee
I tried the hairstyle.

Hilarity ensued.

Okay- so I've finished the headband and the puffs, which I prefer to call Decorative Tribbles (which, besides the fact that I'm a complete nerd, is why I named this what I did). I know some of you out there are going to hate me because they're made of rabbit pelt, but if it makes you feel any better, the pelt was about 15 years old.
My hair trial went semi-well. It's really messy in these pictures, but I can understand why Toph always has her head bowed slightly- besides being blind, this style weighs a ton! You can see me laughing at myself. I can't wait to see this all together after I've dyed my hair...

Beautiful! I'm attempting to recreate Toph's hair with a wig. Let's just say not. going. well.
I love the way that you did your bun. How long was your hair when you took these pictures?

Also, decorative tribbles For the Win!

Thanks! I think my hair was about mid shoulder blade length when I did this.
Good luck with your wig!

Thank you!

*sigh* At this point I'm thinking that I'm just going to end up being Toph on a really bad hair day.

You could always try a black beret-like hat with your hair and some padding in it and the headband over the the top of it. That might work.

Yeah. Actually, at this point it's involving a lot of self-grip hair curlers from the dollar store, sewn into the cap of the wig. And a giant amount of hairspary. But I'm making a backup hat in case it epically fails or falls apart at the con.

Worst case scenario I'll be pink-haired Toph...

Which is now getting my brain thinking about a Punk Toph cosplay :D

DAMN! Was that hair hard to do? It looks like it's a real pain. But it looks good on you. :D

Well, it was really heavy and pulled after a while and I had to lacquer in place, but other than that it wasn't too bad :D

How did you do the giant bun? I've been trying to get my hair like that, but I can't figure it out.

I teased the CRAP out of my hair with a flexible comb, sprayed it with hairspray, and kind of rolled the hair into itself. So the hair is holding up the hair, basically. It's a sixties trick. Then you pin it down with bobby pins, and spray it to death with hairspray.

It's like a Leia bun on steroids that has attached itself to the back of your head & is now feeding on it. :] I'm kidding! :P It looks like fun! ^_^ Hairy Toph-related fun. :D

They're really soft and fuzzy... I'll probably end up naming them...
