It is often recommended for artists to create a series of paintings along a specific theme or style. Initially this put a lot of pressure on me…I kept thinking, what if I don’t like this style or theme in the future or what if it does not work out the way I have in my mind. Then I stopped myself and decided to just see what happened. I thought about things I like…pop culture, retro, vintage, movie stars, food… and decided to just pick something and go for it. I then thought (yes, I think a lot…) how many paintings form a series? What if I take on too much? So I decided to pick three…that’s enough to call it a series but not too many that the thought of creating it would be overwhelming. The first topic I selected was ‘Classic Movie Icons’, specifically my favourite person of all time Audrey Hepburn, the star of one of my favourite films Rear Window and the ultimate classic, Grace Kelly and probably the most iconic of icons, Marilyn Monroe.
