Story:
"Well, this is going to be a good, new start," Becket sighed, patting the young mare on the shoulder. After Sherlock's accident-- well, their accident-- there had been about a year before Becket would let herself back on the race track. But, this mare had been a gift to the racing staff from the new owner of the stable, Mr Carson. He had been scouting for new stock for the racing program, he had seen the flashy birdwatcher spots on the fillies' shoulder and hips. The markings were so similar to Sherlock's, and the horse, one and a half at the time, showed so much spark and drive that he felt she would be a good addition. When Becket had been presented with the mare when she stepped out of the trailer as it arrived at the Aspen stable. Having her around was fantastic after Becket could find her fit with the mare, and once training started, Becket could confirm Mr. Carson's feelings about Shoshana.
Now they were on the track, the clouds brewed overhead and the threat of rain was very, very real. With six drawing nearer, Becket couldn't help but think about her time with Sherlock; when they raced as number seven in the triple crown. They had raced in similar, soggy conditions, and Becket didn't like the idea of doing it a second time.
"Miss Tredeu!" Becket turned, it was Mr. Carson, dressed for a day watching races and scouting for breeding prospects for the future.
"Hello, Mr. Carson," She replied, tightening the girth on Shoshana.
"Not exactly the most opportune weather, I should say." He was trying to start a conversation with Becket, hoping that she could talk to him more casually. He knew that she was very attached to the previous owner of the stable, and that it would be difficult for him to get that same level of dedication. "I have faith in you girls though, you've never let me down before."
Becket smiled for a moment, without showing her teeth. acknowledging the compliment, but not caring enough about it to dignify a verbal response.
