Good anthro art submitted by our fans and friends.
You may have noticed the submission requests have been piling up, and going unanswered. There's a reason for this.

Though several members of the group have the authority to vote on submissions, it's mostly been me that does it most often. But I've recently moved, and my internet connection hasn't been set up. So I've had to go to a nearby library to use the internet, and I only get a certain amount of internet time there. I need to prioritize some internet tasks over others.

Unfortunately, checking the submissions on Anthro Gratia Artis isn't a high-level priority. It's a time-consuming process to check each submission, vote on them, and then sort them into each folder. I've tried to get to it as much as I can, but I can only do it so often, and meanwhile, many worthy submissions have expired. Also, since the library WiFi is public, there are some things I don't want to do on it.

Rest assured, though, when my internet connection is up and running, I will sort through the submissions we have accumulated, and any that have expired, I'll send out a request if it was going to be approved. Things will be back to normal shortly.

What We're All About

Ars Gratia Artis

That's a Latin phrase meaning "art for art's sake". It's basically the idea that art exists on its own and doesn't need a moral, practical, or popular function. Art can be made simply for its own sake. The artist could have been driven to make the art by a moral, practical or popular motive, but it's not necessary.

And this is where the phrase "Anthro Gratia Artis" comes from. This means "Anthro for art's sake".

This is a group for people that enjoy drawing anthropomorphic art, but don't identify with the "furry fandom" that has cropped up around it. Anthropomorphism has been around almost since the dawn of humankind, certainly well before the 1980s when furries started catching on.

This is a group for people that wouldn't be caught dead in a fursuit. This is for people that grew up with cartoons like DuckTales, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Biker Mice from Mars. This is for people that have read Maus, Usagi Yojimbo or Pogo for its artistic merits, and not because it starred animal characters. This is for people that are annoyed with the rules and standards that other anthro groups on DeviantArt impose, like it's Star Wars fandom.

Though this group is more easygoing about submissions, and embraces anthropomorphism as an artistic construct, there are a few submission guidelines:

:bulletred: No fetish art! Your art should be submitted here if you believe it has artistic or aesthetic merit, not if it's meant to appeal to some kind of furry fetish. There's dozens of other DeviantArt anthro groups for that.

:bulletred: We only accept submissions that achieve a certain degree of anthropomorphism in the work, as in the subject must be identifiably non-human, with human characteristics. If the subject is too animal (four-legged), or too human (catgirls, normal people with animal ears or an animal nose, etc.), it will not be accepted.

:bulletgreen: Though fetish art is not allowed, art depicting couples in love or anything similar is fine, straight or otherwise. Just make sure the art has some kind of emotional weight, and isn't just smut.

:bulletgreen: Mature art is fine, again, if it has artistic or aesthetic merit. Artistic nudity is okay; we don't require you to wear fig leaves around here. All art is welcome, if you believe it has something to say.

:bulletgreen: Art in any medium will be accepted. Traditional, digital, sculpture, animation, literature, whatever.

:bulletgreen: "Modern" or "Classic" Anthro are both permitted. There's no regulations on what your anthro "should" or "shouldn't" look like, what clothes he should/shouldn't be wearing, or anything like that.

:bulletgreen: Mythological anthropomorphic creatures are allowed, such as satyrs, centaurs, mermaids and so on. Modern or modified takes on them are also permitted, as well as folklore creatures such as werewolves, skinwalkers, dragons and the like.

:bulletblue: Anthropomorphism isn't limited to just animals. Other kinds of anthros, from plants to objects to anything else, can also be submitted.

:bulletblue: Fanart is allowed, but it should be of a character who's already anthropomorphic. A human character that's been "anthropomorphized" might be okay, if there's a legitimate artistic reason for it.

:bulletblue: Please only submit fanart if it's of a character from a recognizable intellectual property, like a comic or a movie. Someone else's original characters that you drew for them are still considered "Anthro OCs".

:bulletblue: Novice art is allowed, but it will be submitted to a "Novices" folder. Critique of the art in there is encouraged by the group.

:bulletblue: We do not prefer to accept art that is intended to advertise something. This includes YCH's, adoptables, appeals for commissions, and so forth. We prefer works that, again, exist for their own sake. Completed YCH's and commissions are acceptable, however. If you would like to get the word out about something, feel free to submit an entry to our group's journal.

:bulletblue: If your artwork is turned down, and you feel like it shouldn't have been, feel free to argue your stance. We'll consider if your art should be added to the gallery, even after first denial. Please do not submit artwork repeatedly until we accept it: ask why it was denied first.

:bulletblue: Please send your appeal as a note to the group or as a comment on the Deviation Submission Process in your message centre, instead of posting on the main page's comment section. Our comments section should be used to voice opinions about the group and its goals, and not for your personal business with the group. Any comments on the main page appealing against a declined submission will be immediately deleted and will not be answered.

Thanks for stopping by. Anthro forever!

I go through them about once a week. I don't have an abundance of time to go through submissions these days; I should probably increase the time limits for submissions, so they don't expire before I get to them.

it would be really cool if there was a feral OC's folder added, along with the Anthro OC's and non-animal anthro OC's folder. ^v^, unless I missed it somewhere!

This is an anthro group, so generally speaking, feral submissions are not accepted.
