About my 3D artwork

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 3, 2010, 11:25 AM

3D Art

Some people ask my about my 3D artwork, which program I use etc. Some others see my portraits of Second live avatars (SL): Well,  I make them with DAZ|Studio, technically there is no link between the two 3D worlds.

I play around with 3D programs since 1996/1997, basically with Bryce and Poser.
My new 3D Art work with DAZ|Studio started ends 2006.

Working with DAZ|Studio is like in Poser, usually you not create 3D models by your own,
you buy them ore use freebees and then morph, pose and texture them.

I never pretend my work in 3D with DAZ|STUDIO is «Art» like Rembrandt, Picasso.. is just something I do for fun. I mostly use pre-packaged or downloadable models. I texture them, morph them, pose them. Many art work like photographic, film, collage, theatre use «pre-packaged» models.. lol.. The point is not WHAT you use, the point is HOW you use.. .

It a little bit like a digital dollhouse. But no program can give you creativity...
It's like with the paint brush and a blank canvas... up to you what you want and can do...

It's sound easy, but If you want to do, what you really want to do, it's some work to do...

I usually use one up to three evenings to create one of my figures, to morph head and body like I want them to be, to choose and to change the skin, to find cloths who suits and change their textures how I want them.

(But sometimes the figures get alive and they do want they want....)

The same proceeder with the environments and the props.
I often change props or use them like the maker maybe not expect...
I sometimes also import obj-files and prepare them in a other 3D programs.
I make myself skies and backgrounds in Bryce. (The other way is also possible and sometimes better: To prepare the figures in DAZ|Studio, export them and and make the scene in Bryce.)

For my most characters I use as base figures Hiro 3 (H3), David 3 (D*), Victoria 4 (V4), Micheal 4 (M4), Hiro 4 (H4) and Genesis (V5, M5), all form DAZ.

I use DAZ|Studio (and my  and sometimes my brain) because
• is a free program
• is better and quicker handling for me then poser
• better rendering engine
• you can use all your poser stuff (except some materials (.mt5, .mt6)
• good mac support (I use a Mac computer, but works also fine on PC..)
• I get use to (the program you know is always the best...)
• Did a mention this? The program is free

I am mostly of the same thinking as you, except I use Poser, which I am very happy with for so many years, since Poser Artist (equal to Poser 4.0.3).

I know even though you are not modeling it, it is artwork, in its own respect! Its just a different media, than 3D modeling that was done raw such as... 3Ds Max or Maaya!

In my account for Sims2 screencaps I am still customizing my characters with downloads and even creating my own items or textures ([link]) so some of it has my art in it, such as where I created digital clothes based off real clothes I have in real life ([link]) or when I created textures for hair or skin, or clothes from Threadless.com!

One would only guess, more people would understand what you do! I hope sometime we can try another art trade sometime when I finish a few other projects.

Peace and Love

Ahhh, that's great! I'm also a Mac user so I was wondering if that program can be also used with Mac...
I'm learning at the University how to create 3D art and I'm using Blender and 3DStudio but I don't like the finished works with that programs. They're too technical, not artistic, and that doesn't happen with your 3D creations ;)

Thank you very much for this information!

After reading how much work it takes to create those digital pictures, I appreciate your artwork even more!! :)

"But sometimes the figures get alive and they do want they want...." That made me laugh out loud! :XD:

And you're right, no program can give you creativity, it has to come from yourself. :) You're man of wise words. :D

I don't know what is ZB....
But if you wanna try to make 3D
try DAZ|Studio. I mention the download-link in this journal
Is free and more easy and better to handle than poser.
But I think, you drawing is amazing,
so you not really need to make 3D... :jedi:

how about furniture, tables and chairs, im feeling the mood for back to school renders, A__A

also im planning to submit something soon, however it requires heavy duty CENSORING, just watch out for STRAWBERRIES ^________^

Hi again, engr-aether
to find free furniture props should not be difficult

I know my list of nice free poser stuff: [link]

you can search on sharecg [link]
and renderosity [link]

To find free hair for hiro will be more difficult... you can use any hair
with a little bit posing work. To tell the true, the most good hair are not for free...
I buy them.

Looking for you new artwork.

The challenge is make sexy stuff here without breaking the rules of DA.

If you wanna post without censoring and see what I do for new more hot stuff , check [link]
(You will need to register at FA (free) to see hot stoff
