One that I did a few months back. I had the pleasure of working with Dr Lindsay Zanno & friends of the North Carolina Museum Of Natural Sciences in order to produce an Illustration for their press release announcing the Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit, which will feature two exquisitely preserved specimens. One is a complete juvenile Tyrannosaurus, the other Triceratops Horridus. More can be read on this exciting upcoming exhibition here: naturalsciences.org/calendar/n…
The project also includes some amazing artwork by world renowned paleoartist Julius Csotonyi. news.ncsu.edu/2020/12/dueling-…

For the layout of the image we tried a few different composition thumbnails, and also went through a number of looks for the bull Trikes facial colours and patterns - inspiration was taken from the patterns of peacock spiders. I was kindly given the green light to share the artwork and some of the concept sketches.
To see more variation for the concept stages, including colour variations for the Trike, feel free to give my Instagram a visit ;)

Oooooooh! :O_o: By the stars! :w00t: I love the colours of this piece. :D

The suspense in this dramatic scene is also great.

The dark rain clouds in the background give it a sensation of impending death. :greetings:

Would you speculate on what colour patterns might be seen in the paleoart of the 2050's?

Are those juvenile Tyrannosaurus?

anthon500's avatar

They are juvenile T-Rex yes, or meant to be anyway.

WWCB's avatar

There's a difference between "are" and "meant to be"?

So, any latest news about the Trike’s frill? Did it had a scaled frill or a keratin frill? Any info on this or not yet?

Is that trike on the right dead or simply wallowing?

anthon500's avatar

It's meant to be dead, or at least very unwell and close to death. It was discussed with the client. We basically wanted to depict a sentimental aspect to the Trikes by having them defending a recently deceased member.
