I get a lot of inquiries about commissions and i can't answer them all, so i hope this post will provide some helpful information to potential clients.
I rarely take commissions because my schedule doesn't allow me to add a lot of extra work, but i'm still interested in new opportunities.
The main issue is that most of the emails i get don't include a budget and ask for my rates instead. I can offer an estimate for illustrations similar in style and complexity to the game cards i'm doing at the moment, but i'm not sure what to charge for different types of work, such as concept art, simple portraits, etc.. Then, even if the client and i would agree upon a price, i might still not have time for a new commission.
Time limits are another thing to consider. Most often i get booked out a couple of weeks ahead, so if you need the work done within a week or two, chances that i'd be able to do that are significantly lower. In conclusion, it would be greatly appreciated if work-related emails included a budget and an approximate deadline, as it would allow me to decide much faster whether i can accept a commission or not.
P.S. If you're looking to hire a fantasy artist in general and not me in particular, check out my boi ArturTreffner
