Scorch Marks, Chapter I: AwakenedDarkness.
At first, there was only darkness. A quiet, empty void. What had happened to me? Was this how the afterlife looked? I always imagined it more... Cheery. A happy place, up in the sky, with little winged puppies playing harps, the sun always shining. Perhaps I was being transported there? Maybe the void was a visitors center of some sort. Or was I going someplace else. I tried to recall the last time I did something bad, but I could hardly remember my own name.
"He's alive!" I heard a familiar voice exclaim enthusiastically.
"You did it again, General." Another one appeared. It seemed to be praising the first one. "You are truly a miracle worker!"
I tried to open my eyes, but it failed. After what seemed like an eternity of struggling, they shot open. Luckily, my vision remained undamaged. I saw the pure whiteness of the room perfectly. However, this room seemed too grim to be the happy afterlife I supposedly deserved. Maybe it was the lobby? Maybe someone wa
A Touch Of Fate, Chapter VBut I didn't sleep. Instead, I did some more research on the glow. It had a sacred book, named "Libro Caritre", which was half religious book and half science textbook on the subject. I found a nice briefing online. It included the requirements for a pair to glow, the rules and loopholes.
I decided to read the requirements first:
1. A name must be known. This can be a first name, last name, nickname of alias.
2. The maximum age gap is 35 years.
3. Must know each other for more than 5 minutes.
4. One of the two must have romantic feelings for the other.
The fourth requirement was the most terrifying, as it implied that Brick liked me. However, there was a little note: "There have been multiple exceptions for rule 4, thus it is possible that the two may not even like each other."
I skipped the rules, as they were uninteresting. Next were the loopholes. But there was one: Both of the people who were involved are killed.
That means I had two options... To either kill myself and Brick
A Touch of Fate, Chapter IVThe nearest Walmart was 10 minutes away, so I decided to walk. I got there, bought some ice cream, popcorn, chips, chocolate and a whole bunch of other junk food. When I got out, it was 6:30, so I decided to take a shortcut through the rich neighbourhood.
I was casually walking with the two bags of snacks I had, when I heard someone shout: "What the f*** are you doing here?"
I turned around to see Brick running to me like he was about to punch me. "You're not welcome here! You're probably just here to steal our stuff!"
"No!" I shrieked, "I'm just-" my sentence was cut short, as he punched me in the nose. It started to bleed. He landed few hits on my stomach and a bruise on my cheek.
I crawled to a corner, panicking, and then realising that I had helped him corner me.
He punched me once more, right in the chest.
And then I felt a strange heat in the exact area. It started to burn, and the pain spread to my whole body. It felt as if I was dying.
I didn't feel another punch, so I figured
A Touch Of Fate, Chapter III"Heidi!" I jumped to my feet, "Heidi, what happened?"
Heidi refused to answer. She treaded softly onto the carpet and then settled down next to me on the couch. She whimpered a little, but that was the only answer she gave me. I wrapped my arms around her and asked once again, "What happened, Heidi."
"Gone." She mumbled through her tears, "He left."
"Who left, Heidi? Who is 'He'?"
"He wasn't at school today. And when messaged him, asking where he was, he said he was in Italy!"
"Heidi, I can't help if you don't answer my questions!"
"He said he glowed with a native and that he wanted to break up with me."
I finally understood what she meant. "Matt left you?!"
She nodded very silently.
"T-That jerk!" I said angrily, "You don't need a jerk like him!"
I changed to a more sympathic tone. "You'll get over it, I promise. You know what? Let's watch a movie tonight. You get permission from Mom and Dad, I'll buy some snacks. That'll cheer you up!"
Heidi's face lightened up a little,
A Touch Of Fate, Chapter III was pretty happy with the class schedule I was given. I had some time to kill before first period, so I went on a search to find my friends, so we could update each other on our summer.
They were sitting near the History room, which was luckily my first class. "Seb!" Danny shrieked when he saw me, "What's up?" He gave me a fist bump.
Daniel Vasque was a Hispanic guy with really curly hair and braces.
"Nothing much, you?" I asked back.
He ignored my comment, as he did a lot, and turned to the rest of the crew. "Clara, Nora, Artie! Look who's here!"
Nora was the first to stand up and greet me. "Seb!" She gave me a hug.
Nora Doyle was a short, half-Japanese girl who was a Sophmore. We had met last year, when Danny and I had volunteered to show her around.
Next stood Arthur Flynne, who had platinum-blond hair and very dark green eyes. He greeted me with a handshake and some silence. He was a quiet fellow.
Last was Clara Knott, who was taller than all of us, who gave me a kiss on the
A Touch Of Fate, Chapter II woke up to the chirps of birds and rays of sunshine beaming into my room. Today would be another excellent summer day, in which I stay inside and stare at the screen of my computer.
It was 6:30, an hour later than I usually woke up. I sighed, thinking about all the things I could've done if I did wake up at my correct time. I jumped out of bed, fully energized. I sneaked outside to check if anyone else was awake. I rushed to the bathroom and grabbed the handle. However, the door didn't budge.
I knocked on it to see if there was any response. Horrifiyingly, there was.
"What do you want? I'm busy!" I could hear my older sister shout at me. And at that moment, something terrible happened.
I realized it was Back-To-School Monday.
"Sorry, Didn't know you were in there!" I screamed at the door and sulked back to my room. I grabbed a calendar and stared at it. Maybe if I stared at it for long enough, I'd get an extra week of summer.
Now, don't get me wrong. I love school, just not the peopl
