Heads turned to catch a glimpse of the unfolding drama. Curtains were drawn, and doors flew open. It seemed that every house on the street had a pair of eyes watching. Was the estate so dull that the slightest dramatic occurrence was a cause for celebration?
I wouldn't have stopped to find out anyway, seeing as the old man those people called a security guard was already gaining on me. I sped up, grinning at the thought of the old man struggling to catch me. But wait...what was that sound? My ears were either blocked or I was hallucinating. Because I heard the sound of more than one pair of feet. Daring to look back, I cursed as my legs gave out a little. Why was there a group of cutlass-brandishing mai guards chasing me? I didn't look to see if the old man was still chasing me. I still loved my life, as uninspiring as it was. If those guys caught me (God forbid!) I'd be suya before the day's end.
