I have been using my garden as a retreat from all the horrific goings on in the world recently. Whether that is the overwhelming sadness of the news coming from Ukraine or the seemingly never ending stories of corruption and lies from my own government. (I will add that I did not vote for them). My garden is not huge but I try to get a lot into it. I sit on a bench that is against the back of my house and it has a large wooden table in front of it made from thick sleepers. As I sit there I have ferns to my left and running all the way along against the fence on the left hand side until it reaches the rockery in the far left corner. The ferns are in a bed made from thick old wood and some of them are new. They are uncurling and growing as the days grow longer, lighter and warmer. I will be adding to this fernery next weekend as there is always room for more ferns. Against the back fence is my huge bug hotel made from an old shed. In front of that is my deep vegetable bed.
