According to the Mexican legend, La Llorona was a beautiful woman who married for love. One day, she saw her husband with another woman and in her rage she picked up her two children and threw them into the river, drowning them. Only after she saw their bodies floating, she realized what she had done and jumped into the river. Now she spends eternity looking for them.
La Llorona is attracted to children, thinking they are hers and tries to drown them. It is said that if you hear her crying, you are to run the opposite way.
